Well it's happened I've broken down and I am waiting for recovery. Any ideas before he comes?
Riding along just fine then it just dies. Pull over to the side of the road and it starts every time but within a minute it will just die again. No errors on the dash

08 GSA

Fuel Starvation ??... Is there plenty in the tank despite what the gauge says??...Try releasing the fuel cap and see if that makes a difference, could be a vacuum forming in it ??...

Checked and there is fuel but it does sound like fuel starvation. If the fuel pump is on the way out would it go like that

Fuel pump controller sounds likely.

As a get you home you can by-pass the FPC with a lead from the battery to the pump.

:(

Fuel Pump controller Search that on here

Left side on top of tank there is an alloy thing with a connection plugged in it it is what switches the pump on and off

You more than likely need a new one and the modified seal and a good coat of rubber grease to keep the water out

I made a rain hat for mine

When my fuel controller went it only ran a couple of seconds as it emptied the fuel rail and then would not fire up again , whilst I was having a new one fitted I was chatting to a guy that had a BMW tourer that was having a new ring antenna fitted and he sounded like he was having similar issues to you occasionally.

There was no sign that water ingress had caused mine to fail.

On all the ones that I have done there was water in the lower well

That was as I understand it why BMW released a new seal

No fuse to pop as its beyond the can bus end of things

Is it raining/wet?

My sidestand switch gave problems - it would stall, I'd then put it in neutral, it would start, I'd put it in gear and it would stall.

I cleaned the switch, squirt loads of ACF50 and problem went away.

Nice and dry she will not start at all now. Still waiting for recovery :-( just incase anyone got the part number for the fuel pump

keep us posted on the cause please as I have a very similar sounding issue currently on my KTM, thought it was the side stand sensor originally, cleaned it up, coated it in WD40 but it still happens, I'm now thinking fuel pump too - I'd be interested to hear of the outcome of yours

Well I got her home and of course it started first time. I'm going to check if the pump was going to be replaced under the recall. If not I'll order a new one

You sure you mean the pump?
I think everyone else is talking about the fuel pump controller.

Ah Yes the fuel pump connections !

No unless the pipe connection points are dozed or cracking it is unlikely they will be changed

But the Pump controller just unscrews (2 torx screws) and 2 connections

The pump controller is what usually goes unless you smell a lot of petrol then it can be the pump flange

That sounds just like the symptoms the guy was having with his ring antenna problem.

They fitted reinforcing steel flanges to my GSA last week even though there was no sign it had a problem.

If it was the ring antenna thing surely once it was started it would keep going and not die out.

Can you order the controller from BMW car dealer? There is one near me or can anyone recommend a supplier?

I think your logic with the ring antenna is correct, once running the ecu won't look for key authorisation again until restarted
The pressure controller is bike specific think you will have to deal with BMW motorrad
