:blast:blast..... The rocker gasket oil seal has blown.... front cylinder.... can't ride it as oil is blowing all over me.....i had to wipe myself down when i got home... common that states the indie... esp after a lay up,...... doh!...

rule two after checking tyre pressures.... when you ride a bike for 1200 miles after a one year lay up.... expect things to retire/die/blow up!

he asked how many miles i've done since i got it in September...... 1,200 i reply...bugger me he says most bikes i service do that a year!...

not a job for me either as all the lifters and shite have to come out.....so, whilst he's got it i asked him to do a full fliud change, fit my forward board brackets replace the blowing exhaust gasket on pot two and give it a quick once over........as i have to buy a complete new feckin tool kit as all my stuff is Metric and nothing fits!,... so far i have one allen key in 7/16th which is anu use.....

the front spotlight has also worked loose...... guess what special tool needed as there is a wire that runs through the middle and the nut is inside a housing... need a socked with a slit down the side........

so in 1200 miles i've replaced a headlamp bulb tightend up things that have worked loose and booked in for my first as they say on US forums "pro wrench" session..... so i've parked the HD and am back full time on my light, quick steering, fast GS.......

on another note i was out on a 1994 Ducati 900 SS for a couple of hours at the weekend...... what a revelation i've not ridden a sports bike for nearly four years.......:clap:clap..... umm..... now how can i swing an old Blade/GSXR/Daytona/R1/ into the mix.... £1500 seems to buy a lot of 90's fun.........watch this space!

Sorry to hear your tales of woe! Can you not just buy a normal socket and cut a slit in it. Bugger paying Harley special tool prices.

agreed no special tools in my budget!.... but cutting a slit down a case hardened socket with a grinder is going to be messy...... and i may loose fingers..... you ought to see me with my chainsaw....

mate of mine runs a back street car garage... i'm off to see him he has all sorts of strange stuff he lets me borrow... !

Ah, ok then please step away from the powertools! Especially the bloody chainsaw. If your spelling suddenly goes to pot I'll assume you've recently lopped a finger off.

I'm like the black sheep of the family...... they are all builders/carpenters/plasterers/mechanics/firemen/sparkies/plumbers.....

i work in IT and can't even piss straight.... still we have a happy balance... they hang doors/paint stuff/fix plumbing either for free or mates rates and i set up internet/ fix email / sort laptops/iphones/blackberries etc.....

but i do like cutting lumps off trees with the chainsaw.... although the feckin thing scares me to death...

Just sounds like normal Evo ownership to me :augie

Like a lot of 'old tech' bikes, the more they're ridden, the better they seem to be.

Try getting a split ring spanner or try a decent open end of the correct size, and decent make. Sorted.
:rob Jake..

And so they should. One kick back from it and oops there goes a leg. Please invest it the proper gear. (Desperately trying not to sound patronising and not doing too well, admittedly)

needs a socket i'm afraid as its up in side the spotlight housing.... imagine undoing a sparkplug on a Jap multi with the HT lead still in place.......

the US forums follow Halfwits lead and grind a grove into a long socket.... what a feckin palaver......easy option... it's in for the rocker cover gasket next week.... get him to sort it simples......

no worries, i've had it up there allready.... perfick... bit of old rope to hold it down!.....job done...

biggest issue TBH is a lack of good ole imperial/SAE tools in my toolkit i need to go to a jumble and see what i can pick up.. i remember why i sold the Buell now...... kept shaking/loose/bits fell off/exhaust baffles from the V&H all over the A3........

Ooh lovely! I live right near the A3 any bits of value/interest?

1. Stafford Bike Show this weekend: good for non-metric tools at low prices :thumb2

2. The Riders Club has all sorts of specialist tools for free loan to members, might be a good idea? :rob

Glad to hear about the bike being fixed but sorry to hear about the puncture.

The back wheel is a bit of a pain to get out but it isn't too bad with practice. I've done it many times on Glides getting tyres changed. Much, much cheaper to take the wheel to a fitter than getting a dealer to do it. And as far as I remember some of the mobile or independent fitters don't like doing some Harleys. RideIn Tyres in Reading will but you'd have to ask around down your way.

If you want to give me a ring I'll tell you how I do it :thumb2

Cheers

Dave
