After a long while deliberating, a great test ride yesterday and learning a lot about GS bikes, their riders and this great forum, I have taken the plunge today and ordered my new, shiny 1200GS!

Night Black, grey tank panels, ABS, heated grips, alarm, on-board computer, white indicator lenses, top-box, panniers.

Wollaston Northampton managed to get a H-D dealer interested enough in my current bike to make a reasonable p/ex offer - the rest is history as they say! Oh, I did get a bit of a deal as well for agreeing to sign up before month-end (you know, the old 'we need to hit our sales figures' routine).

Probably looking at picking up the GS in around a week's time. To say I'm excited is an understatement!

Out of interest, did you go for the servo brakes or not?

Oh dear how to spoil a new bike

I'll blame the wife for that one

Often ride two-up - she's only ever been used to the sissy bar on the back of current H-D - wants the security I guess of knowing she ain't going to slide off the back!

You have of course selected by far the best colour combination & I fully understand you exitement & enthusiasm, but I just can't help wondering about this new fetish for white indicators WTF, is it me but don't orange ones do the same job????

Dunno about that, I'm an 1150 luddite and I've gone for the non-ABS version because I couldn't get on with the servo.

At least you've already ordered the panniers, or I'd have mentioned Metal Mule and Caja Sahel as well

Top Box - aaarrrrrrrggggghhhhh! have you read all about the top box failures? ...bouncing down the road ..... and those grey tank panels detach themselves once you go above 70 and.......

Top Box

Best investment I ever made to my GS was the top box with a back rest, I can now go as fast as I like with the wifelet on the back and no complaints. Does look a bit pony when riding solo mind.....................
