Just as soon as I sell one bike another appears in the garage.

First thing is to iron out the niggles, it's let me down 3 times out of 5 this last week. Starts fine then drops to one pot only. Last night I rewired from pickups to ignition boxes (motoplat) I'll know in about 10 mins if it worked:augie

Hahahahaa!
Sorry - i only laugh coz i got a Guzzi that does that. Has done that, ever since i got the effing thing.... 15 years and 60k miles ago!
I pull the HT cap away from the plug - it works. I put it back - it conks out.
I've never figured it out.
It's had motoplat (which i'm told is a good idea to get shot of anyhow :nenau )
Lucas Rita - still have that - you can borrow it if it helps to diagnose?
Now has Dyna ignition. Which along with the VW Beetle coils gives a lovely spark....

.... but now and again (e.g. this morning as i'm leaving for work of course :blast ) it goes on one cylinder for no obvious reason.
I just either pull the HT cap away for a few minutes / or cope with a 500c.c. single  - it goes back onto 2 cylinders after a few minutes. :thumb2
Only thing i've found that has reduced the problem a LOT is to switch ignition on a couple of minutes before i actually want to start the engine.
I am told it helps the rotor / stator magnetise. (But as i'm a total electrophobe - this could be me talking bollox  )

Valve clearances not too tight?

No, clearly a lack of sparks. When she goes it's puts my R80st to shame performance wise. Still not quite there yet, just a few coughs and splutters this morning in the fog. OK when up to temp.

Well, good luck with it… This type of problem usually turns out to be several little niggles all at once. Keep you amuse for hours..:blast

Had an R 80ST. Loved it. Still got the owners manual and tool roll somewhere. Should have kept it and stuffed 100 barrels on it. Prob fit 5 bikes in The Shed if a nice one came along. Would have to put it on top of something else!

Fluffy

If you are thinking of letting the R80St manual and tool roll go to a new home, please keep me in mind, as I have recently put my ST on the road.

Thanks

Bubb
