Hi

I have just had my first off-road experience. I rode the green lane just east of Farnborough between SU913550 and SU907555.

I managed to stay on the bike, although I stalled it once. I found the most difficult part was through water since I could not see what was underneath and the dips were full of bricks and concrete blocks.

Is it sissy to get off the seat? It seemed much easier standing on the pegs and I could go faster.

I want to thank Jarv for pointing me toward the OS explorer maps as a method of finding offroad routes with rights of way. As my technique gets better I will probably try and do everything on explorer 145.

Good on you! Nice to hear someone using their bike in all ways rather than just talking about it.

There's some cracking lanes over your way and in Wilts.

Well done! Standing on the pegs is easier, best thing is to get yourself down to the BMW offroad school, they will teach you more in 2 days than you could ever imagine.

I am not far from you and will be out on my pogo (Small KTM 450EXC) pretty soon, I would be more than happy to take you out for a day and give you some pointers. I know the area pretty well.

We'll alert the media:confused:

Yep, better do it quick, seems some arses have escaped from the Internet.

keep at it , :thumb laning is so much fun and you get to see so many different views than you would from the tarmac side of things:thumb

Steve - good offer from the Helmetier - he knows those lanes and he knows how to ride them.:bow

Steve

Glad you had fun ...:thumb2 But its not a good idea to lane on your own ...Try tagging along with some guys who have been riding a while they will soon give you a few tips ...What bike are you riding?

You also need to make sure the lanes your riding are legal even routes shown as byways can sometimes have tro's or other restrictions on them ...

Hi

I saw a comment about it not being a ride report without pictures. As we had a bit of sunshine today I took my 1989 R100GS the other way down the same green lane.

Here is the last of the tarmac heading into the lane.

It was much wetter than last time. Here is the first of the mud.

It then got much more wet and muddy. Unfortunately that was the time the batteries in the camera died....
