what canbus electrics are and how it works.

F*ck me what a load of over complicated shite to fit to a motorcycle, no wonder the f*cking things keep breaking down.

It's simple, not complicated, easy to understand and simplifies the wiring no end - if it's unreliable then it's the implementation that's at fault not the idea.
 
S'funny. I understood it to be a lot less complicated in some respects. Any 'complication' lays within the control unit.

I've owned a few cars with CanBus systems, all have been very reliable but they were cars that I'd never attempt DIY upon.

I don't like it as it's been applied to the 1200 onwards because it appears to have been adopted to dissuade DIY, or at the very least to make DIY more expensive (the single-loom is evidence of that).

+ 1 :thumb It saves literally miles of cable and unless I've missed something on this hallowed site, CanBus itself is rarely if ever the actual cause of any problems among the small but unfortunate minority that suffer unreliability. The reason those poor sods are so over-represented on sites like this one is that the majority are too busy riding to have time to log-on. :rob

In which case it can't have been explained to you very well............. or you are incapable of understanding a very simple principle :augie

no problems here either - I am quite impressed with the wiring diagram.

06 did 65,000 miles and my new bike, bought in March just clocked 10,000 miles this morning.

if you take the tanks off an 1150 and a 1200, it's very difficult to see where they have simplified the wiring :confused:

i can see it saves a lot of wire on long vehicles, but you still have to have wires going to each switch, lamp, sensor etc. so you only save a few wires running front to back. not very far on a bike :eek

But quite far on tens of thousands of bikes ;)

I've had no canbus issues on either of my 12's or any car I've owned with this system :nenau
 
Makes sense given the electrical gizmos in most cars, not sure it's needed on a lot of bikes though. Be interesting in 20 years time trying to maintain a classic 2009 car...

i hadn't thought of that :blast


but, but, to save a few feet of wire on each bike they have to provide two (at least) electrickery boxes to interpret the signals.

i suspect any real benefit may be in fault diagnoses.
