Proof that mini-hard drives and motorcycles don't mix well I suppose.

I stuck my 40gb Creative Zen Touch in my nice new steel box with the autocom and kenwood etc today, then after 3o mins of perfect music, it just stopped playing.

I checked it out when I stopped an hour later and it was just locked up.......so tonight I've had a play and have gone through the various steps you can try to recover it (ie re-boot, disk clean up etc) then finally I had to go for the 'format all' option from its recovery menu (It's drastic as it erases all the tracks on there, in this case over 5000 :( ).

'Hard Disk Error' is what came up......So I'm pretty sure it's knackered it.

Shitty thing is I've absolutely no idea where the reciept is.......

I think they have a history of doing this . When I bought an iRiver, the Zen was much nicer looking, but many comments on Amazon about HDs seizing up!!

Ahem.

Thought I'd come back and set the record straight here :blush

The Zen was in my steel box, on top of the rear rack, and apart from its sleeve, there was no padding.

Obviously out there on the end off the rack it's going to be bounced around like a very bouncy thing in a bouncy castle in bounceytown, so it was a bloody silly place to have it.

Added to that, the unit has been chucked around in vintage series landy across the sahara desert, during which time i think it would be fair to say we didn't exactly take care with it........

the trip included several hundred miles of 'washboard' roads, and if you've ever encountered those, you'll know it's a bloody miracle that it was still working on our return.

So Overall, I'm still happy with it......I took it into Curry's yesterday and got it replaced no questions, and it only took an hour to dump all the 5000 tracks I had back onto it last night, so no worries there either.

This thing's got a 24 hour battery life, holds 40gig (16000 tracks) and it's easy to use........it's still a bloody nice little gizmo.

:D :D
