I have a 2023 1250 gs trophy with almost 30k. It was for the uk hot yesterday and I stopped at lights select 1st but when I moved off but the bike jerked several times , I was told the hill start was off when I bought it, but is this just the heat/hot bike ? My pal has had simular happened with his 1300 gs trophy
Any advice ?

Hi Tim. Might be worth checking that theres no green H on your dash before you pull away. Can you turn hill hold off completely? I know when mine came back from a dealer service they had changed the setting of the hill hold and it came on automatically, rather than manual when you give the brake lever a good squeeze. Just a thought bud.

HSC is best reset to manual IMHO - squeeze the FB lever to engage, a second squeeze to disengage. Much the same concept as the 'hold' function in many cars.

IIRC, the HSC system works by using the ABS module to apply the rear brake, so worn rear brake pads or a corroded caliper could be the problem. At 30k, when were the brakes last checked & the fluid changed I wonder.

My 2018 r1200gsa did it a few times ,worst was in Germany fully loaded but it always happened in hot weather after a longer run.

It was traced to an issue with machining on the clutch pack (tolerances were too tight) , when the bike was very hot the clutch would stick on releasing causing the bike to kangaroo and try to do massive wheelies as the clutch tried to release then stick (extra revs made it much worse)

Next time it happens if you can switch off the bike, put it i to neutral and try again, it for some reason usually temporarily cured the issue. BMW reckoned that stopping the motor and then restarting in neutral was enough to cause the clutch to release and unstick.

Mine was still under warranty and a new clutch pack cured the issue

My initial thought is that hill hold assist is still on. It doesn't take much of a slope to engage it! Then if you're not smooth with your clutch release it could jerk.
