There is a power take off point behind the air intake (tube) and wondered if anyone knows if it's possible to take a 12v (pos + & neg-) from this. I've tried to find either a lead with the correct plug or a plug but can't. I'm sure the plug has 3 pins.

Can anyone point me in right direction ?

Thanks, after removing tank side panel I found that lead/connector, on the sat nav cradle there are two connectors, is it possible to remove the black one and use that to power two aux lights ? I assume the brown and white wires are live and neg ?

I doubt those wires are robust enough to power lights, even LED.

Fit a Thunderbox

I have just spent quite a bit of time fitting a pair of aux lights to my 1250R. I got the brackets from Nippy Normans, got a correct plug to connect to the spare socket on the right hand side of the bike (sat nav connector just above the radiator) wired them in and switched on the ignition. (I haven't fitted a switch because I want them activated by the ignition)
The lights come on for a second or two then go out. Have I missed something ?

yes, that circuit is designed for the lower power consumption of a satnav, so the control system shuts down the power as it thinks there is a fault with the LEDs connected. The bike has this instead of conventional fuses on most circuits.

As I state above, fit a Thunderbox. This is connected to the battery so will not be monitored by the bike's control systems.

NN sells a cable adapter/ splitter that is designed for this purpose. It connects inline with the feed to the aux socket. My bike has an OEM factory fitted usb on the dashboard and I run two led lights via the NN splitter.
You could also use it on the aux socket under the pillion seat if you don’t have the usb on the dash ( fitted on later models I think) although it would involve more time running cables through to the front.

One small issue is that the canbus trips out (with the same symptoms you’ve described) if I try to run the lights at the same time as the usb for phone charging. The lights have a switch so I turn them off if my phone is charging. I felt the benefits of being ignition controlled and canbus ‘fused’ outweighed this drawback….and I already had the lead on the shelf.
I think bmw can also supply an oem version of the splitter.

If the OP wants to run additional accessories that use a switched live as the control then a Hexezecan is another option. I've used the same hex on all 4 of my LCs and it powers the following.
Power for my 2 chanel bike cam
An additional Soundbomb mini horn (original is still in place so I have 2 working which gives a decent output)
A pair of LED AUX lights which I also have a switch on the handlebars if I want to switch them off. I have also wired and programmed these so they pulse when the horn(s) sound and also when the indicators are on the AUX light on that side is switched off to make the indicator more visible.
You can also set the power limits for each channel too depending on what the current draw will be which is a useful safety feature.

Thanks, I found the correct switched live on the left side by the radiator, all working now, light work when ignition is on.
