Power take off for heated clothing -

Ive just found some old heated underclothing i aquired some years ago

its a gillet, gloves and socks (and i think there may be a pair of trousers too)

they all connect together cable wise with a press stud type arrangement

looking at the power supply end, it looks like a cigar plug type affair.

Quick Q, can you use the charging socket thing near the seat to power this lot if i change the

plug?

Or does it need a cigar type connector fed from the battery ??

You'd need to add up the total wattage, assuming tags are still there, then divide by 12 to give current load, if it is more than 5A (which is only 60w) you'll need a direct feed off the battery as the canbus will shut down the accessory socket.

Just checked my oxford vest, no tags giving wattage, you may have to try manufacturers website.

Connect them all together, plug into canbus socket (if the plug fits) turn on the ignition and see if it all works
and keeps working. If it does you are good to go if it turns off or doesn't otherwise work you will need to go direct
to the battery via a fuse which is how i have mine set up.

Good advice from the posts above.
The DIN socket is designed for that and in 99% of cases will
power everthing you need it to.

If needs be, it’s not difficult to wire up a direct feed socket. But with luck the standard one will do it.

I bought an Eastern Beaver 3-way fused set up that I have taken from bike to bike. Easy to install with a posi-tap for the wire that goes to a switched live wire to trigger the relay and then very well made connectors for the rest. I run a plug for a heated jacket each and a plug up from for charging stuff on the go. Switch the relay from either the +'ve to the accessory socket or the diagnostic plug. Both easy to get at under the seat.
