JohnGS1100 Tuning Chip

This is odd, John sent me the stage 9 chip for my R1100GS which has the standard air filter and exhaust, runs great at all rpm, no more surging, more torque and returning better mpg, running at 52-53 mpg on regular unleaded. Yet I understand that it should be a K&N and straight through exhaust, so how come?

Johns chip

I've had stage 4,6 and 8 tried them all for lot's of miles. I still think stage 4 gives best mpg and pulling power. My bike is a year 2000 single spark with 115,000 miles on clock. Stage 4 chip gives loads more torque and about 47 to the gallon. Best it's ever run on stage 4 chip.

I agree cliffsaunders got one on my twin spark rt never even had to put the gauges on it etc see if john can do one for my single spark r1150gs .

It seemed to me stage 6 & 8 were over fuelling it and bike wouldn't run smoothly. Stage 4 on mine is definitely the right chip. More than happy with it.

Thought exactly the same about stage 8, a bit lumpy at low revs and drinks unleaded like there's no tomorrow, even after 1500 miles of settling in. Have refitted stage 4, very happy with it

Sorry should have mentioned she's a single spark GSA :thumb

Sorry about the question but I really cant be arsed reading through 1008 posts.
My bike is a 2000 R1150 single spark as it came put of the factory apart from having Lennies Rocket Sprockets.
What chip is recommended for my bike?

Thanks
Adrian

Hi Andrian.
I made a special chip for lennies sprockets. I give to the chip, faster timing advance only at low and middle rpms and much more fuel at high with slow than stock timing advance (to high rpms) because the 9 plus degress of sprockets need slower ignition at high..
That gives more torque to the bike and more power at high rpms. Works great.

Hi John
I have won Ebay auction 112002490682 for one of your chips
I have sent an email to the email address you have on this site.
I am looking forward to fitting it and riding the bike

Thanks
Adrian

Hi Andrian.

I just send the chip for lennies sprocket today morning.
I make it by +10% more advance at 1.200-3.500 rpms, by +15% more advance at 3.600-5.800 rpms and by +5% more advance at 5.900-8.100. If you hear some pings let me know please, i can make correction for better results.
You can burn 91 or higher octane petrols.

Also i give little more fuel at all revs of rpms especially at middle (the lennies sprockets need much more fuel at midle rpms).
By all these modification the torque will be much better at low and middle and the power at high go up, your will suprised.

Let us know about results please.

The chip will arrive to New Zealand after 2 weeks.

Regards

Just put my new chip in stage 9 from john , all is well except a little popping from the exhaust . Haven't had time to see what fuel consumption is like .
I would like to know the difference in stage 4 and 9.
CliffSaunders and sheene speak good things about version 4 .
Can anyone clear that up .
One more whilst I am on . Is lennies rocket sprocket worth fitting .
Thanks

By the stage 9 chip you don need the lennies sprockets because the torque at middle is great.
The diferent of stage 4 and 9 is the faster timing advance. Also the stage 9 works better by de-cat system exhaust and free air filter.
Alan wants smooth function of engine on his stock bike, we was talk about it and i make a stage 6 for great torque by smooth function of engine.
Anyway.

Hi John - I am running a Stage 9 chip in my R1150GS (single spark) with standard air filter, Black Widow Y piece and silencer. Bike goes really well, much improved midrange and pickup but seems to overfuelling because all the 1200 riders behind me are always complaining of the smell of petrol from the bike - seems to do much the same miles to a tank as was doing before. Wondered if you had any suggestions?

Yes. If you want riding the bike at high rpms you should use fully synthetic motor oil 10w50 or 10w60.
Also the spark must be iridium. That's all will make safe the function of your bike at all situation.

Thanks for that info john.

I recently fitted the sprockets chip to my std except with lennies sprockets 1100gs, since fitting the tick over has gone upto 1500 rpm. The bike pulls well particularly midrange and seems to zip through the Rev range much faster - do I need to have the throttle body's balanced again or can I just lower the tickover myself. I have no equipment to balance the throttle bodies myself and its not due a service for 3000 miles. Any suggestions?

i had the same issue with my 1150 i lost about 45 miles to a full tank. so i asked john to send me a advance timing chip only and fitted a af-xied. bike runs amazing now love it :)

If you have little problem to idle speed you can adjust by the TPS (little shifting left or rigth). The correct TPS voltage is between 0,35-4 V so you can play until the iddle speed is 1050-1100 rpms.

Here is a pdf helping file for TPS adjusting :
