JohnGS1100 Tuning Chip

Quick question please I'm just fitting this new chip.

Can anyone tell me which way the arrow on the new chip should face ?

Inward or outward ?

Ta

There is a notch at one side of the chip. The same notch is and to the socket of ecu.
These both notchs must be to the same directions :

JohnGS1100 chip

I have one of Johns chip fitting to my RT1150 2002 of which has transformed the motor, more torque, can use higher gear into corners, top gear now a driving gear as opposed to economy one. As for fuel consumption it is better although i am not twisting throttle as much to achieve same acceleration, well impressed.

Just fitted chip to chums GS1150 2004 and he cannot get over the change in his motor. Now wishing i had not, as he is chasing me everywhere now. ha ha.
Chip is very good value and a big thanks to John for his knowledge in producing these. Recommended highly.

Just bought an 1150GS Adventure that apparently has one of John's chips fitted (no idea which one?). Very happy with the power, but slightly disappointed with the fuel economy, only getting 42mpg rather than the 50-60mpg I got from my last 1150? Most of my mileage is commuting on dual carriageways so far, normally 50-80mph.

Anything I ought to check, bike has fresh oil, plugs & filters all round?

Your new 1150 "Adventure" is lower geared than the standard 1150, so expect lower MPG.

I've just completed over 300 miles with John's stage 9 chip in my 1150 GS Adventure 2005 and averaged 50 MPG, riding on bike fitted with TKC's.

Hope that assists :thumb

My old 1150GS had the 6 speed box with the lower 6th gear but standard first gear, covered 50k miles so am aware of the approx 10mph difference @ 5,000rpm between the low and standard 6th gear.

Thanks for the input though.

Possibly looking at getting one of these chips as I will be fitting an aftermarket exhaust soon, what would be the most appropriate model for my bike, if indeed it makes sense to fit one at all:
2000 R850GS
No-Lambda
No-Cat
Aftermarket exhaust
Std air filter

Stage 7 I think sounds right, but I'm just a little concerned how much benefit it will provide as I don't have a Lambda sensor to operate in closed loop.

Any suggestions, or experience from non-Lambda (pref 850) owners.

I made a perfect chip for R850R will run like a 4 cylinder bike, much more power at the top end. The 850 boxer engine is my lovely for tuning. You will have much more final speed by the best consumption. I think that the best boxer engine is the R850R old and new 1996-2000 and 2001-2005 year model.

Chip

Ok so i think its about time i invested in one of these tuning chips!

1150 GS twin spark 2004 y piece with Baffle less Remus 145.500 miles mainly two up touring with luggage.

What would be the best chip for both torque and mpg? :thumby:

Yes Ratty, the torque and power will go on and the consumption will be better.
Be sure for that.

For Y-pipe and Remus or Akrapovic exhaust my lovely chip is the stage 9.
Full power like a supersport bike !!

Send me a pm please for more talking.

Thanks :)

the tank does need removing mark but it's not a difficult job at all. tank off, unplug motronic ecu, unscrew it from mountings, remove lid (may have to work around the lid with a flat edge if it's still got sealant), carefully pop out the old chip and replace with new taking note of orientation then reverse for reassembly.

How do I go about refitting the standard chip? I want to return my 1150 Adventure to standard to compare fuel economy. Bike currently chipped and fitted with a cat and stubby pipe. Not too happy with the 42mpg I am getting, was expecting 50+.

Hi Possu. I can make a chip by stock injection maps and faster ignition advance for torque but i think the bad consumption is because it is winter. Anyway send me a pm please we can check and resolve the problem.

I would be very surprised if the "Chip" was to blame for your low fuel economy

I covered over 40k miles with the standard chip and monitored my fuel consumption in all riding conditions.

I can confirm that since fitting John's stage 9 chip to my 2005 1150 GSA, I am now achieving 3-4 mpg improvement riding on a like for like basis and last couple of tanks = 53mpg average.

Mine is a 2005 twin spark, remus and decat.

Hope this assists :comfort
