JohnGS1100 Tuning Chip

How do I go about refitting the standard chip? I want to return my 1150 Adventure to standard to compare fuel economy. Bike currently chipped and fitted with a cat and stubby pipe. Not too happy with the 42mpg I am getting, was expecting 50+.
Similar set up to mine and fuel consumptions poor and was thinking of refitting the original chip to compare but don't record my consumption so guess I wouldn't know for sure.

Just bought an 1150GS Adventure that apparently has one of John's chips fitted (no idea which one?). Very happy with the power, but slightly disappointed with the fuel economy, only getting 42mpg rather than the 50-60mpg I got from my last 1150? Most of my mileage is commuting on dual carriageways so far, normally 50-80mph.

Anything I ought to check, bike has fresh oil, plugs & filters all round?

Hi Steve

Yours has the stage 10 chip which I think was optimised for y piece and standard can, sure John can sort...

Sorry but if the bike has free air filter and y -pipe to exhaust needed richer fuell for no backfires and smooth function by these hard setup. It is the only way for correct function to engine.

Re Chip

Well my stage 9 arrived last week (Thanks John) Installed it last sunday and took the old girl out for a ride.

I can say it definitely seems smoother and much quicker, Less strained in the higher rev range.

Only managed 60 odd miles ride out in the bloody rain but yes deffo better!

filled the tank and will keep an eye on mpg.

watch this space :D

Hi John I've got a stage 7 in now which is great. It's got decat Remus on and k&n air filter however I've just fitted 1150rt camshafts and rockers do you think a stage 10 would be a good idea ? My bikes a R1150GS 1999 single spark

Hi John,

Spent about an hour reading this thread!

The link on your post directs me to the ebay page, but, it says the sale has ended, and sends me on an eternal cycle of relistings!:comfort

I have a 1150GS twinspark, 2003, the only difference from standard is the removal of the silencer, and it being replaced with ashort "stubby" pipe.

What chip would I need, as I 'm confused by the threads mentioning various stages of these chips.

Incidentally, the link to the location of the CCp doesn't work!

Thanks

I've just ordered a stage 8 chip for my standard 1150GS, with the exception of it being fitted with a stubby straight through pipe.

Can't wait to get it.

I have a few spare chips #4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 I think have to double check first, for a single spark.

With Johns permission I would distribute free of charge.

Just removed the petrol tank from the bike, it's a servo model.

Jesus, what do I have to do to get the motronic unit out, before I fit the chip?

Will have to buy one of those non tamper torx bits!

You should just fitout the ECU. Then open the cover (of ecu) by the torx screwdriver, remove the old chip and fit the new.

You can refit the ecu from the 4 screws of the corners of ecu by a screwdriver.

I do not understand what is the problem sorry.

I thought that I needed to remove the motronic from the bike and disconnect it from the loom? So, I can undo the four screws and access it while it's on the bike?

If I have to remove it from the bike, it is so dirty in there, I can't see how to disconnect the loom.

Thanks for e mailing me the instructions, I was a bit wary about disconnecting the the electrical connection, it looked obvious........ fallen into that trap before........
