Because of the fuss in getting to the battery do any of you clever guys know what diameter the cables need to be for a permanent, remote jump start connection? TIA

I’d suggest no smaller than the battery cables already there. I’m not familiar with the battery location but it may be that you only need to bring a + cable and just bring the - to a good earth. JJH

The NOCO GBC007 is made for exactly that application and uses 8 AWG.

and yes, you just need to do the positive lead as you can clamp the black lead to a bolt head on the engine
on the R1200 bikes, BMW already has a remote jump start post. I assume you have checked there isn't one already on the bike!
