hi, I tried to ask this question in the Font of all wisdom section, but it wont let me.

just come back from a nice ride out, and as always I checked my bike over before puting it back in the garage.

just below the alternater drive belt cover (the black plastic bit) was a finemist of what looks like oil?. as if it had leaked out from under the cover.

any Ideas as to why this would happen and is it something major.:nenau

oh its an 06 1200GSA. :augie

Thrown up by the front tyre?

It's a simple job 2 minute job to whip the cover off & check (if you have the tools).

BLOODY HELL, thanks for the quick reply.

no its definately coming from behind the plastic cover, very light misting is how I would discribe it. I thought it was dry behind there. I had a new front engine cover fitted last year under warenty, and wonder if that has anything to do with it.

ok, I have taken the black plastic cover off, and there is some foam rubber which looks like its had grease put on it. Lots.:eek:

there does not appear to be any oil leaking from anywhere:thumb2.
But all the little bolts that hold the black cover on, where not even finger tight, and the larger bolts that hold the crash bar cross member were also only finger tight.:nenau:eek::mad:

Has the foam been soaked in some form of anti corrosion spray i wonder, that may appear like an oil leak when it gets warm. Apart form that there's only the crankshaft oil seal. So, throw the foam away cos all it does is collect salty water and promote corrosion. Then clean up the area under the cover, refit and go for a ride. On your return remove cover and check.

I agree - Bin the foam etc.

:thumb2

Remove the cover, bin the foam, mask off the belt, spray everything behind the cover with waxoil, refit the cover.

Well, that's what I did.
