Just bought a 1200GS Rallye LC - problems

Funny that you should revert to personal insults. The option is there, if the op so wish, to sell his GS on and buy something else. Which inevitable will most probably happen. What he buys next will be whatever whenever. As I said, it is advice, he might not take it nor may he like your comments. Nowhere on here have I sang the praises of the 1290. Keep up at the back.

You clearly suffer from cognitive dissonance....you criticise the WC, tell the OP to sell his.....and now you tell us that you own one.

We are all somewhat confused....

That's a true statement and stands on its own merit.

I bet dealers love old tossers bringing their tractors back with tales of woe, must be a delight hearing the stories followed by... so what you going to do about it.

I am sorry Sir, but could you make that descriptive noise again?

Personal insult was the only rational response to your stupid comment

You are, it seems, a bit short in the reasoning capability. In which case the suggestion to think it through might well be wasted. Fuck, I'm starting to sound like engineer.

The decision is based on the fact that for the roads I ride and the touring we (the missus and I) do it is the best and most comfortable in that application. If I have been alone in the decision making not taking into account the needs of my pillion it would have been a KTM. As most blokes on here very rarely take a pillion........... and you can't beat the resale value of a GS. Hows that for marketing.

I have to applaud you on the very quick diagnoses of my mental state. It clearly saved me countless pounds in shrink fees. I'm forever in debt to you. Please don't send the bill.

Stop digging. The hole is way big enough. It is getting embarrassing...

You have made yourself look like a right nonce :) Keep going though because it's quite amusing

Fred, at least you realised you are being strung along. Just waiting for our fellow antipodean to catch up :D

Makes for a change in one of the non technical threads on here.

Dear All,
Thanks all. Never expected to spark off such as debate. I agree that its still a stonking bike which I chose over a new Triumph Explorer. I still have font memories of my 2003 1150GS and if I had the space and money might have kept it

As bought this bike from a dealer 290 miles from home will do to local dealer after first verifying the previous dealer will cover any non-warranty costs i.e. due to poor service

Thanks again

Don't worry - you will soon learn that this forum has members with no manners or taste, and mods who can't be bothered to do their job.

Insults pass for witty repartee here...

Why don't you just pop in to your local dealer and have a chat? If I understand you correctly, your bike is 10 months old and therefore has the new bike warranty, but you bought it as an approved used so it has the stonking new 2 year used warranty applied too. As a result you should have no issues, but you are also new business to your local guys so they are likely to welcome you with open arms. You can sort out anything which needs funding by the supplier if, and only if, it comes to that. Realistically, it's the local service department you need to have your dealings with going forward.

As an example, my bike was a bit newer than yours but similarly bought approved used at distance. I had a loose screw in my top box hinge which wouldn't tighten, nothing that seemed unlikely that a strip down wouldn't cure but as it was likely to be under warranty I didnt want to mess with it myself. I was in touch with the supplying dealer who was being very helpful, but asked locally what they thought. Service guy was happy to help and a look, then he got a tech to come out to gave a look. Next thing - brand new top box. They also did my fork modification last November, and folk are still moaning about that on here. So, my advice is to give your local dealer a chance - mine is giving me first rate service wherever I bought the bike.

Thanks. Dealer to spoke to my local dealer, Linds Norwich, bike booked in for a check on Saturday. Service dept very helpful and reassuring. Lets see what they say after test ride on Saturday

i was in a certain motorcycle dealer today eyeing up the euro 4 bikes mmmm
