We had a pair if new GSs turn up yesterday. Munich registered BMW owned bikes ridden by a couple who had the tough job of putting loads of kms on the things. And getting paid for it-(form an orderly line please) nice work if you can get it. Interestingly there were aftermarket GPS mounts in addition to the BMW one. One bike had tyres that were almost worn out but I forgot to ask how many kms they had done in total.

I saw a dealer demo bike yesterday that had a squared off back tyre on it at 1500 miles

I think they did that! Sadly these people had to get back to Munich this morning so I didn't have much time to chat. Very knowledgeable about roads around here though.

I suspect that if BMW were not taking bikes off the production line for further testing then they would be castigated on here and elsewhere for that omission.

We had a small group from the UK who all "knew" that the new GS was prone to tankslapping. Mind you they all said they knew about 50kph limits in towns here but that didn't stop them from being caught twice on the same day. Both times they were fined 30 Euros for the 3 bikes so it didn't cause them too much grief.
