I’ve just had my bike serviced at BMW Aberdeen (John Clark) and they used Magura SB 15W-40 oil instead of 5W-40. Checking with some of the other guys in our club their oil changes were also with 15W-40.
Question, has BMW changed the required oil grade for the 1300GS ?.
So if I have an engine problem later on then am I at risk of voiding the warranty ?
Cheers Jer.

Interesting (y)

There was an article on YouTube that mentioned some manufacturers of new cars were backtracking on their use of 0 & 5 wt oil as they were seeing more cases of premature engine failure and so we’re going back to heavier oil.

I would email and request confirmation that the oil used meets with BMW Motarrad specifications and does not void the warranty. Simples?

Magura SB 15W-40 is a highly specific, high-performance mineral oil traditionally formulated for agricultural machinery, central hydraulic systems, or older heavy-duty braking and leveling systems. Because it is a heavy-duty 15W-40 mineral oil, standard high-quality 15W-40 heavy-duty diesel/multigrade engine oils or multi-application agricultural oils act as direct physical and chemical equivalents.

I wonder if the dealership that did this service might give you a proper answer

maybe the OP misread the invoice and this was for an oil change in the backhoe accessory on his BMW Tractor?

Had my 1250gsa serviced there a month ago and noticed the same thing on the invoice. I just thought it was a typo or something on their system a bit amiss.

If you're worried just ring them up and ask, sure they'll be able to explain.
