Guys, before I go and presume ANYTHING :D is it ok to replace the OEM air filter on my 2010 GSA with the `free flow` K&N alternative?

There`s not some dark, arcane reason which I have no idea about which would make the engine blow up is there............?

Its just going to be a straight swop, no messing about with dyno`s or power commanders involved!

Best regards, ride safe :thumb2

I'm not aware of one, though you do have to wonder why manufacturers invest £hundreds of thousands to get airflow right! :augie

Yes and I am sure under normal conditions there is NOTHING to be even the slightest a bit worried about (I used to use K&N all the time when a mere lad).

But nowadays, what with all the electrickery going on, if anyone`s bike was going to go into `meltdown` it would be mine.

I think I did have a converstaion with someone about the bike running leaner and therefore prone to valve damage but i`ve slept since then................

Oh the joys of middle aged paranoia :bounce1

From what I have read on here and other places our bikes run very lean to start with as standard to pass emisions and the like, so adding anything different without changing things might just make the bike do things its not meant to do.

I fitted different headers and tail pipe and fitted an accelerator modual and it does run alot better.
I am now looking at a power comander for mine after looking at the power gains another member had on here, ok his was his own ecu that got changed but to me when riding 2 up most of the time more power cannot be such a bad thing.

One question why change just the air filter???

Hi Spike - its not to improve performance (per se) rather to do a service ont he bike - I have everything to do it apart from the new air filter so i thought about using this new K&N someone gave me............

Regards,

Mark.

I never recommend them -I've serviced plenty of bikes fitted with K&N filters that have been to morocco and seen too much muck downstream of the filter.

Try doing an internet search and see what some test have shown.

K&N

Waste of time, When I did the dalton highwway it( original) ended up full of dust, took it out and knocked on a post all the dust came out and put it back. Brilliant.

be careful

I was told that a K&N without a fuel map would lead to very lean running to the point where damage could occur. Best check with BMW experienced dyno house or ask K&N.

I use K&N filter for the past 7 years , never had a problem :nenau
I never need to remap or other staff :thumb I know that from one service to the other I do not need to bother taking the filter out and clean etc.
The bike work perfectly fine and like the extra noise when I ride , I can all most here the engine heart biting :)

BMW paper filter is more efficient and cheaper, plus you can re-use as Dave says

Wouldn't bother with K & N, standard filter is a piece of piss to change anyway.
