K+N Air Filter Worth It ???

Hi all,been thinking of fitting a K+N air filter to compliment my full Remus Exhaust system. Is it worth it ?,any power increase ?,any issues with fueling etc?,does it effect BMW warranty ?,is it the same one as the standard 12GS ?
What'd you reckon oh Gurus of all things BMW ????:bow:bow :bow :bow :bow
 
I have fitted full remus, down pipes and end can with K&N filter. Runs great.

Did it with the help of a local dyno chap, was run alittle weak with the baffle out and had a flat spot between 4 and 5000 revs made 107.2 BHP. Replaced baffle flat spot gone running with limits for mixture and making 107.8 BHP :clap

Just back from 1890 miles to Monza and back with 3 days playing the alps bike ran great and only used 100ml of oil.

all i can say is that when i got my hp i took the full remus off of my 1200 gs and the k&n and fitted them on the hp i never had any probs with the 1200 and ive not noticed any running probs with the hp i have cut my remus down in length by 120 mm though , ideally i would like to fit the wunderlich box or [power commander] ?? just to smooth things out completely
 
k&N

put the K&N on not long after i bought the hp2, it allows u to change the sock on the snorkel without changing the main airfilter. A top idea i would say, especially in dusty conditions or where there is a chance of debris getting in the snorkel. If u are doing the pipe it is also worth doing.These are inexpensive mods that are functional.
 
I run a filter sock on the snorkel inlet - it catches a lot of debris and certainly keeps the filter cleaner, I also have a matching main air filter but I will not be fitting it until I get a few more miles on the engine and a decent exhaust system, then I can get it on a Dyno at the same time.

When i ran my hp on the dyno with full remus and K&N it made slightly more Horsepower but in a much narrower band but the fuel ration was in excess of 15.1 , so I have a barley used K&N filter for sale and the best power i have seen is 94.5 " I knew mine was a bit sluggish " I would like to modify " richen " my mixture before i would move to the K&N

As a single mod doubtful but together with an FI management system, less restrictive inlet & exhaust systems, the total contribution "should" put more power to the road.....
 
I had a work over on my normal 1200GS, including the K&S. The workover included Bos full system & Rapid Bike III module (better then the power commander and such).

During all the testing an dynoruns I was able to make one with and without the K&S.
Conclusion: It does not do a thing (zero !) on the power of the bike. All it does is make the fuel mixture a bit leaner on the high reffs. And since the 12G is already too lean, you can say it even makes things worse!

So unless you add a power commander-controler/ rapid bike or such, stay away from just a K&S (as far as power and handling is concerned.)

Air Filter

M-Tec just put a Rappid bike commander on my bike, It has full Akrapovic system, but stock air filter.
112,5 HP
126 NM
The bike has changed dramaticly, now it is like riding a 450
Motard, it is like having a new bike.

I've used the same K&N on my 1150s since early 2000 which includes very dusty conditions and had no problems at all in around 80,000 miles.

The filter is very dirty after some of these trips (5,500 miles) but as you say with a standard you have the option of blowing the dirt out.

does it richen up the Lean areas of the 1200 / HP2
how much and from where M Tec ?
