I have fitted a K+N air filter to my 1100GS, it is already fitted with a Remus exhaust system. after fitting the air filter my bike is difficult to start when cold, it will run for a second then it dies, (i use the choke on the first 'click' until i get one or two bars on the oil temp like i always did). has anybody had a problem like this? My bike runs fine once i get it running but before it started first time religoiusly:confused:

Andy,

It sounds as though your bike is running very weak. Once the bike has warmed up does it tickover at 1100RPM ? I had a similar issue when I fitted my Laser, the bike did not start easily and even when warm ticked over slightly low.

I turned the air screws untill the bike ticked over correctly, when warm, and the problem went away. You do need to be able to balance the slides when adjusting these screws so don't just turn them without being able to balance the throttle bodies:

Something else worth checking is that you havn't over oiled the filter, effectively choking it.

K & N

Andy:
The K&N filter effectivelly let more air pass to the engine so your bike seems to be running too lean. You'll need to close the screws on the carbs about half a turn. Or close them till locked and then open one and a quarter turn. Then it will be a good idea to properly balance the carbs.

Most probably it will solve the problem.
