k & n air filters on airhead (good ,bad or no )

I have k&N on all my Bickes proberly not so good in the desert but as I dont have that problem I love them :thumb

Fitted a replacement K&N inside my airbox once, screwed up the carburation so bad you wouldn't believe it possible. Thought I had pulled a plug lead off!

Be prepared for messin with the jettin

You can be our test-bed :D I would imagine they will make the mixture a tad to weak, so be prepared to have to dismantle/fiddle with carbs quite a bit or get the bike set up on a rolling road ( always the best way ) .......they do look good  ( although I expect them them to vibrate like hell ! ) but you cannot beat the standard set-up.

I have them on all my airheads, cant say I noticed any need for rejetting - remember on a CV carb more air flow will suck up more fuel, so they are to a certain extent self regulating.

And the flat filter can be restrictive too, in certain applications - Rob Farmer has the details----

I had flat k&n on my r100gs, it came to me that way so maybe previous owner did a bit of fettling but never gave me any problems.

Top man :-) Any chance of pic/manufacturer that you fitted ? Worth putting in the Airhead 'sticky' for improvements/mods etc at the top of the section.

Already covered on Advrider - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=491413 Don't assume youll need a bigger main jet if you fit them. When I bought a T3 Cali some years ago the previous owner had followed the recommended train of though t that K&N needed a 160 main jet to cope with the extra airflow, it had made the mixture so rich the exhaust port coated up to the point of holding the valves open. In reality it needed smaller mains because the K&N filters were more restrictive than the standard filter on the cali - If you've ever fitted a standard filter on a cali you will understand why people fit pods.

The standard, black airbox, is perfect for the 32mm R80 carbs but if your fitting pods then you apparently needed extended tubes to match the air volume of the original setup
