Had my bike in bits for a spring clean, had a look at the air filter and it looks like it needs a good clean. Had look on the K&N web site, they do a "Clean re-oil KIt" has anybody tried this or can it just be given a good air blast or would a low temp gentle wash with Lux and comfort be ok.....:D

As long as you have a K&N in the 1st place the kit is fine as they have a cotton, re-washable gauze:augie

As for the merit of K&N's that will post and post...

I have a kit and I am still on the same refill after many K&N filter cleans. Lasts for ages and I have used the degreaser on the bike to stop it getting left on the shelf:D

The cleaner kit contains a solvent spray that dissolves the old oil impregnating the filter ready for washing in water, drying and re-oiling.

marked K&N and it looks a more substantial filter than you normally see...:D don't normally look at the filter as I pay BMW to do all that stuff for me. So not sure why I did look at it. Also checked the service history and it doesn't look as if a new filter has been fitted since 2003.

I purchased this bike a few months ago. If I read the service schedule correctly it should have been replaced when I had it serviced last month....

K&N's don't need re-oiling very often. Don't know what othere users think re miles but K&N info gives some rediculous amount of miles that many BM owners may never see:augie

there 50,000 miles, so can assume that the filter didn't need replaceing, bike is just coming up to a 42,000 service....Having it done at Liphook so will ask them and see what they say. Have given it a good brush to remove all the loose crap......:D
