Has anyone fitted one of these to your 12?

I tried yesterday but in vain. I followed the manual and then arrived an the point where I had to remove the air intake via two clips. This was impossible for me anyway. Is there a technique? Am I trying the right clips - they are two dogtooth ones that have to come back through a small bracket.

Help!!!!

Andy

Hi there Stoney,
You can release the snorgel by Just pulling the clips out and in the same time pressing the clip from the right hand side towards the inside so they can be released from the actual air box.

It is easier if you use a screwdriver to pull the clips out. Take it easy though as when clips are released you might scratch the bike with the screwdriver!!

Fitted mine 1000 km ago and it performs brilliantly.

Hard to tell. It does feel free-er and quicker but it is doing the same speeds at the same rpm that was doing with the standard. The OEM filter was about 3.5 inches deep and the K&N only an inch or so - so it's obviusly less restrictive.

I reckon it sounds better too!!!

Apples and oranges, but having used K&N's where i can in the past, my latest K&N exploit has caused no end of grief.

Arguably it was in my 4x4, but what happened was it has an airflow meter where the air enters the induction system (i.e. before the filter), it measures the air then mixes the diesel, all well and good, but the K&N lets more air pass, so mixture wrong, so ECU fixes, Air meter disagrees, ECU and air meter argue, car runs OK, but refuses to pull away cleanly, eventually Air flow meter gives up, car continues to run, but not brilliantly.

Out comes k&n, in goes paper filter, on goes new air flow meter (£150, thank goodness for warranty) and voila, fixed moottah!

Don't know if i'm keen to put a K&N on for the 'minimal deriveable benefit' (maybe 1bhp if you are very lucky) which is outweighed by the potential risks and BMW voiding the warranty!

It will do as the gearing won`t have changed! As long as it makes a noticable differnce beit sound or feel :thumb

I`ve heard of problems with MAF sensors but with well oiled filters so I think I`ll stick with a nice dry paper one ;)
