K & N

So anyway , I'm about to put a Y-piece on my 1150 and was wondering if it would improve things even more if I popped a K&N air filter on to improve the 'suck' as well as the 'blow' .

There's a lot of 'K&N filters are really bad at filtering dirt' type threads about at present. google is your friend here.

Although the K&N bashing has some way to go before they catch up with 1200GS bashers

only improvement was that its cleanable, save your money unless u want a washable filter,

I'd stick with the paper filter,K+N seem to attract even more crap that the paper,And you have to make sure there always oiled,If not the holes in the gauze will let all that crap into you engine.
There great for the ultimate horsepower,but would not use for road work.
Suited for race engine, With regular stripdowns,So should be perfect for the 1200 hex lump

i have a pipercross filter installed and its ok, nothing to shout about. just regular take out, clean, refit.

Standard filter for me, no improvement in performance or economy with the K+N and the possibility of inferior filtration.

the gauze only holds it together, theres filter material between the gauze, its good at filtering, but still dont recon it offers anything other than its cleanable

I would assume the stock filter very capable but if you are really adamant, you could put an oiled foam filter/sock on the end of the snorkel, after sealing the airbox joins up well with silicone grease. Possibly looking at reduced power though.....

Common sense dictates that the only way you can get more air through a filter of certain dimensions is bigger holes or more holes. And I cannot see how you can get more holes without the filter falling apart.
