Good Evening,
I have fitted a K&N to my 09 1200GS adv, like i've done to nearly every bike i've owned. Was talking to a fellow GS owner and he said it was a no no on the 1200 as the engine runs to lean. I put it to you chaps is this right or total bollocks?

If you have de catted headers and are running the K&N you definately should be looking at a Power Commander.

You should be OK though with a standard exhaust system:thumb

Hi
Using an accelerator with a K and N filter seems to a no no, as it really increases fuel consumption. Have refitted standard filter and that has vastly improved economy.

I fitted a K+N along with an Akra can and Remus headers and was similarly concerned that things might get a bit weak.

So I happened upon a Wunderlich black box on here and stuck that on too. But - I suffered from some serious mid range flat spots that I reckoned were due to being too rich.

In the absence of a handy rolling road in my garage, some recent lay-by adjustments saw me turn down the mixture at the top end and mid range and things have improved significantly.
But it's still not right. Can cause some unsettling moments when overtaking.

Was running pretty well at the top end  in the warmer weather on Sunday.

I'm going to try a standard filter back in and also try to find a proper set up.

I have to say, I have a K&N, decat headers with Akra can and an acelerator module on my HP2 and it goes like stink all the way through the revs with no flat spots or problems of any kind. it whips up to the rev limiter and pulls strong from low revs in any gear.
Its been like that for over 10,000 miles and just keeps getting better?
Curious:thumb

I have a k&n with a standard exhaust that I removed the cat from and removed all baffles from the silencer making it striaght through,Its been like that for 40k and runs sweet as,plugs are perfect.:clap Its an 05
