Hi all,

After 10 years on GS's I've decided a change was needed. I have out a deposit down on a 2007 23k K1200GT SE.

I was impressed with the spec and looks etc. has anyone here had any experience oft these bikes?

I've read that the radiators are prone to getting blocked with road crud from the front wheel and there are recalls for cam chain tensioner and rear torsion bar.

So what are they like? Good, bad, ugly, or all three :D

Check the damping on the rear shock; I bought an 09 1300GT and after 24k the rear shock was bolloxed. Had it removed and sent it to Firefox Racing for rebuild - there was an imperfection in the chrome piston rod that had nicked the oil seal and as a consequence all the oil was lost. Apparently it is a common fault so the quality control on the OEM shocks is not good!:blast

Thanks for that. I've seen the rear shock can be rebuilt for about £170. Will have a look at the front end. What's the best way to test the front for faults?

Jon :)

Radiator

Think the cam chain tensioner is now a foc upgrade on the K1300GT so may be on the 1200.
Had a blocked radiator and the dealer cleaned it for about £60 when the bike was in for a service and the covers were off. Only overheated when going slow in traffic.
Changed it for a GSA and miss the power, fabulous bike.

The owners I've spoken to are generally happy and I think about 150BHP :eek

Looking forward to a comfy rocket :D

Thanks for the advice etc.

The gearbox is on a par with the 1200 WC.
Superb performance and handling.
High speed weave was cured with a Zt-technic screen.
They can be picked up cheap enough and i would have another as a second bike but for the horrid gearchange.

Did 59k on mine. Had a few issues but all sorted by BMW even out of warenty. OK to self service but to replace plugs need to remove radiator which needs a vacuum refil. I'd keep an eye on the coils. No sign of weave for me like a rock at 140+ 2 up and loaded on quiet German autostrada. Comfy for me, excellent, true wolf in sheep's clothing.PR3's suite the bike well.

Thanks for all the advice etc. After much reading and researching it seems that the K12 is a very capable machine.

I am aware of some of the weaker points etc so will be looking at those straight away.

I will be getting the extended warranty for peace of mind and the new ride is being delivered on thursday :D
