Hi everyone ... I really need your help if possible ....

I've been riding my K1300R since Apr 2009 - great bike .... but now things are starting to 'go wrong' ...
I took my bike to my local dealership .... and to cut a long story short, they've replaced the coil packs, new plugs as part of its 36000 mile service .... They are also saying the valve on the exhaust is corroded and I need a new exhaust manifold 1000 pounds plus fitting !!!!!!!!
Although the bike is now 7 years old - its only done just under 36000 miles and I always completely clean my bike, Ac50 it, etc. and take the best possible care .....

Does a replacement exhaust manifold and flap etc. sound like the right solution - because the valve has corroded?
Is this a common problem ?
Has the manifold changed over the years - could I look for a secondhand manifold rather than a new replacement ? If so - any suggestions where I might find one ??
Has anyone out there got any experiences or advice they can share ?
What other problems have people had with their bikes (I've had 4 new replacement rear light packs)

As you can imagine a 36K service, new coil packs and plugs is already getting close to a grand ... now potentially another grand on an new exhaust ?? I could cry !!

Any help or advice would be awesome ..

Many thanks

Rachael

I had 3 K1300R but never kept them out of warranty, I did about 30k miles on the bikes overall and only had 1 problem which was the ambient temperature sensor giving strange readings on my 2nd bike. My bikes weren't used when there was salt down but my exhaust was spotless! My exhaust flap was fully functional and had no corrosion, I know this as you have to remove the silencer to get the rear wheel off and I often ran the bike whilst the bike was like this to upset my neighbours....... I used to remove my exhaust valve regularly on my Fazer 1000 as this was prown to seizing so I kept an eye on the K1300. eBay has got to be the best place to get a cheaper exhaust if you can't clean yours up?

Hi Dave - Thanks very much for the quick reply ..... I ride in pretty much every weather other than snow (obviously) but always clean after every ride .....
The dealership have dismantled the flap motor and mechanism and kept the flap in the open position on a temp basis until I 'buy another manifold' !!

Lets hope eBay is my friend .....

Best wishes

Rachael.

Hi Rachael, I believe it's the same part for the K1300S so that should make things a bit easier as there are more S's about. If the flap isn't seized do you need that part or the servo motor? Have you looked on the parts slide?

Good luck
Dave
