I'm in, come on everyone this is a great event with a social evening on the Sat night for a beer. two days of great trail riding on fire roads with no need to rush.
See you guys there, only my second event (rally that is) and totally different from the Sweet Lamb sprint so I'm very curious how it all works. Just been perusing a few YouTube clips and reading a few threads. Looks like it'll be a bit more of a challenge on the 1150 GSA than the sprint - bit more punishing on screw ups.
One of the threads I read referred to a fast guy on GSA last year, anyone know who that was? Might have a few questions....
Cheers, Mike
I thought you mentioned you were going to husky the rallies?
...too easy!
Will probably regret this tho.
I did it last year and it was a great weekend, perfectly suited to your big GS.
Normally 10 - 20 % Big bikes (800cc + ) with the rest puddle jumpers.
I have noticed a steady decline in GS's in the rallies with KTM 9x0s or 690's being the main bigger bikes in the last few years. In fact I can't recall seeing a GS on any of the WTRA events in the last 2 years. (except Molys HP2 which doesn't count as it is a rocket ship rather than a bike)
Molly - did you ever go down to a 2.50 rim on the rear on the HP2?
Just bought this off ebay

and will put a 21" rim on it (still torn between 1.85 and 1.60 width), and as the MX boys are quite happy with a 2.50 rear rim on a 19" rim I am thinking this could be a very cost effective rig for the rear, maybe even reuse the spokes if I can. Do you know off hand if the front and rear spokes are the same gauge?
Love to have a go at this, never used my Gs in anger always on smaller cheaper bikes. What do you reckon to a gs800 on tkcs doing this? Is there much tech stuff, eg. Needing lots of foot work, I'm a short arse see.

Have to say I'd rather do it on an 800. I reckon you'll be fine.
But that's not the voice of experience speaking....
There's a few other rallies later in the year if this ones full and there are - judging by the first round at Sweet Lamb (which was a doddle btw) - quite a few riders that set out to enjoy the event first and foremost.
Certainly worth a go.

sweet lamb was a warm up sprint event ...not to be confused with a big lap rally .......
