K2 - Kielder Sign-in thread

See you guys there, only my second event (rally that is) and totally different from the Sweet Lamb sprint so I'm very curious how it all works. Just been perusing a few YouTube clips and reading a few threads. Looks like it'll be a bit more of a challenge on the 1150 GSA than the sprint - bit more punishing on screw ups.

One of the threads I read referred to a fast guy on GSA last year, anyone know who that was? Might have a few questions....

Cheers, Mike

Hmmm and I notice he's not doing it on the GSA again this year!!!!!

PMs sent to "Horse" and "Michael R1150GS Adventure"

Thanks,

M

Horse is local to us, he used to ride a 1200gs on the trails but I think he has traded it (last I heard he was looking at something lighter...)

I have his number if you want it. I thought you mentioned you were going to husky the rallies?

Need to arrange a practice blat soon.

...too easy!

Will probably regret this tho.

PM'd Horse, dont worry about the number.

Yes, it'd be good to get a ride in soon. Likely off to Walters for a Big Bike bash on 12th May, don't think they let tiddlers in....

Maybe so !
Last year part of the route took us down a 100mtr decent across a little stream then a climb out, first time round no problem, second time I stopped on the decent and surveyed the scene, fifteen or so riders stuck or spinning there wheels in a quagmire.

I would still be there now if it had not been for the help i got from a great feller from Jersey (I think) by Sunday this section was removed, thank goodness.

I did it last year and it was a great weekend, perfectly suited to your big GS.

....apart from the huge drop offs into quagmires!

I'm guessing a few 1150s will be there?

Normally 10 - 20 % Big bikes (800cc + ) with the rest puddle jumpers.

I have noticed a steady decline in GS's in the rallies with KTM 9x0s or 690's being the main bigger bikes in the last few years. In fact I can't recall seeing a GS on any of the WTRA events in the last 2 years. (except Molys HP2 which doesn't count as it is a rocket ship rather than a bike)

yep your right ,the and its a shame ,the orange wave is all consuming/the bm riders talk about it, but only a few follow it up,the rallys are built for these bikes and the ones who dont do them dont know what there missing
i have decided to move on to different class
but i miss the twin class allready

changing the topic a little....

Molly - did you ever go down to a 2.50 rim on the rear on the HP2?

Just bought this off ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120900726...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_1413

and will put a 21" rim on it (still torn between 1.85 and 1.60 width), and as the MX boys are quite happy with a 2.50 rear rim on a 19" rim I am thinking this could be a very cost effective rig for the rear, maybe even reuse the spokes if I can. Do you know off hand if the front and rear spokes are the same gauge?

Love to have a go at this, never used my Gs in anger always on smaller cheaper bikes. What do you reckon to a gs800 on tkcs doing this? Is there much tech stuff, eg. Needing lots of foot work, I'm a short arse see.

Have to say I'd rather do it on an 800. I reckon you'll be fine.

But that's not the voice of experience speaking....

There's a few other rallies later in the year if this ones full and there are - judging by the first round at Sweet Lamb (which was a doddle btw) - quite a few riders that set out to enjoy the event first and foremost.

Certainly worth a go.

sweet lamb was a warm up sprint event ...not to be confused with a big lap rally .......

Gotta say Sweet Lamb sprint rally was good, real good. Any GSers thinking of having a dabble off road in an event could'nt do better than have a go at that.

Shame they have to wait best part of a year tho! Any more thoughts on your "night rally" for later in year?

Woodys gear. Exquisite - but I cant even afford his spokes! $200 a set.

Cheers Molly, and see you at K2.

You too Michael?
