Nearly finished running in new (07) GS.
When riding in wet conditions my pillions arrives with considerable water up the rear of their legs and lower back. Not dissimiliar when riding solo though not so bad. Have had rear huggers on previous bikes, is this the answer or are there any other options? (not sure if a hugger would look right on the GS Any recommendation, with suppliers if possible, gratefully received

I had the smae problem until I fitted a Wunderlich (?) hugger. I think it looks OK, it's the rest of the bike that's pig ugly.

Do a search on hugger and you'll find plenty of tales of ill fitting, tyre fouling and other problems with other makes of hugger, although I'm sure Wunderlich isn't the only good one.

Hi Boffer and welcome to the site :beerjug:

I've had a hugger and now have one of these fitted. I'm really pleased with it; it offers the same level of protection to rider and pillion but does not suffer from any of the documented problems associated with huggers and 1200GS's (also looks a lot better IMHO).

Spray up the pillions back can, by all accounts, be reduced/stopped by one of those lip/extenders that fit behind the number plate.
Does anybody have one of these as I'm thinking of getting one - do they work as well as they are supposed to :nenau

Hi - I used the pyramid hugger on mine until I started going offroad - where it just gets overwhelmed by mud n stuff! I've gone for the internal hugger from Wunderlich via www.bmwbikebits.com. Expensive but seems to do the trick - mid you I've seen a cheaper version a few guys have - involves cutting up a rubber car mat! I can take some pics if you like - or if you're interested might sell the pyramid one (black)? cheers;-)

Internal hugger seems to make sense, although I agree on the look. Have seen some infill panels for under the seat which may hide the majority of the hugger. Anybody done this? Photos?

Thanks for the swift resonse folks!

Had a good result by cutting a piece of food grade plastic belting to shape and fittind behind the frame tubes at the left side held there with cable ties. Looked surprisingly neat. Try a stiff car rubber floor mat - they're pretty cheap.

Goodness gracious - cant believe its two years since I posted THIS

It was a 99p solution then - may be up to £2 now

You dont need all these fancy huggers - do it yerself and feel like a smug bastard :thumb2

My wife took the plunge and bought said internal hugger for Xmas.:loveheart:loveheart:loveheart

Very well made and fits like a glove. It even has a recess for the rear brake cylinder pile. Yes its a lot of dosh for a bit of plastic but in the cost is the R&D on what will probably be a very small volume seller. Easy to fit and on the GSA it can't be seen unless you know what you're looking for!

On VERY wet roads last weekend it did a first class job of keeping my rear shock, left leg etc free from grime.

Best solution on the market at the moment IMHO :thumb2

Thanks for all the suggestions/advice. Forgot to mention that I have BMW's low seat option fitted, does anybody have experience of fitting shrouds & side covers with this seat, I believe the side covers may not fit?

There are lots of inexpensive options...

This is my solution to all of the 12GS's rear fender issues. Ensure you scroll down to the rear bit behind the number plate.
Inexpensive rear fender fix
