On my 2021 TE I have a low W seat with the cool seat cover on the front, in the low position.
The rear seat is OEM in the forward position.
The key turns to undo the front seat ( but I cant get it off because it needs the back seat removing first.]
The key wont turn to unlock the rear seat. I don't wish to force turn the key for fear of breaking it off in the lock.
Any simple solution?

try pressing down on front edge of rear seat (after ensuring front seat is not undone on key and locked into place) it should ease the pressure on the rear seat enough to allow you to turn the key in the right direction to unlock it
I bought a spare key cut to fit this seat lock as I felt the ignition key was to fragile to put a lot of force through it!

I did try sitting on the rear seat while trying to turn the key, to no avail. I will try just pressing down on the front of the rear seat

I had a similar issue with a pair of mesh seat covers, In the end it was down to getting the front seat low enough to release pressure on the rear seat. The thickness of the mesh seat covers was the problem on mine. In the end I knelt on the front seat while the misses pushed it forward into the tank then banged, wiggled, sweated and sweared at the rear till it popped up.

When I got my GS new back in 2021, I had OEM seats. The rear was forward and the front was hight at the front and low on the back. Then I replaced the front seat with Wunderlich one and kept the adjustment (front high, rear low). At the first attempt to unlock the rear seat I had the same problem you do. The key simply wouldn't turn. It took me a lot to unlock the seat. Tried the adjustment high-high and it worked well. Then tried low-low and it also worked no problem. Only front high - rear low was a problem.

Try turning the key to unlock rear seat, keep the pressure on. then a good hard thump on the front of the rear seat.
Make sure the front seat is locked fully down
Same principle as:--- 'If it doesn't move use a bigger hammer'

I only had mesh on for one day same problem, swearing helps , mine went in bin

When I've experienced this, I'm sure, it's about depressing the rear seat front with a big thump with turning pressure on the key at the same time.....you may need a second person to do the thumping!

Get a torch and look in the gap between the pillion seat and frame to check there's nothing jamming the release mechanism under the pillion seat. I had something similar that turned out to be my dashcam control unit getting in the way. If you can't get it off you might have to cut through the mushroom retaining lug at the front of the pillion seat with something like a multitool.

Thanks for all your replies. It seems like its not uncommon a problem.
I did get it undone by kneeling on the front seat facing backwards,. must have been some sight.
Then, stupidly, I moved the front of the lower seat upwards and put the back seat in the higher, backward position.
It clicked into place but now I cant turn the key again. Tomorrow I will try getting some help and thumping.
Then keep the levels of the front seat the same.
