Hi,

A friend is currently having an issue stopping his bike with the keyless ignition. He has to press and hold the button to switch the bike off.

He does currently have an ABS fault and I'm wondering if this could be the reason?

(For what it's worth, my car (Renault) requires me to press and hold when the key is not present, which is what leads me down this though process)

Anybody else have any experience of this?

Thanks.

Is he stopping the engine with the ignition button, he should be using the kill switch then using the button to switch off ignition, or it will do it itself within a min or so anyway.
Well that's what I do anyway!!!

Yes your right mine is the same it's an either or thing I guess.

I would suggest using the kill switch for immediate engine kill.
Then a short press to turn ign off..
I'm betting if engine is running there will be a delay in case one inadvertanly catches main keyless button..
I'll try tomorrow though..

I never use the kill switch and the keyless works fine for me

I never use the kill switch for switching of the bike. Its not in the manual to do it this way and most definitely not what the kill switch is for. The bike should cut out the moment you press the keyless ignition button.
Take it back to the dealer if it's still under warranty. I'm not sure how the ABS function could be linked to this, but another reason to get it sorted.

I would suggest using the kill switch for immediate engine kill when in an OMG I'm falling off this bike whilst stationary situation

How the fuck can you inadvertently touch the main keyless button? :nenau

That'd be up there with inadvertently adjusting the screen whilst on the move

I always use the kill switch, then turn off the ignition with black button, it was the way the dealer showed me to do it.

i only use the starter/kill switch to start the bike. Always turn off with black button.
same as my car :)

I always stop the bike with the side stand down.

Then press the black button to immobilise the bike.

Just because I'm lazy.

Yep!...That's what I do (put the side stand down while in gear) and for the same reason :agree
Me too.
All the time.
Then it doesnt roll forward of the stand or backwards down the hill (steep drive so its a habit) and.. Your mates who think it is amusing to start the keyless bike because you are in range, cant! Because its in gear.

.... and stops the bike rolling off its stand when in gear and left parked.

When engine stopped, I let the clutch out and roll the bike forward until held by 1st gear. Then lean the bikes weight onto the side stand.

Lock it in place.
