Khulu's Road trip to Assen Motogp via Romania 2022

I'll do that when I'm as old and done as you Al!
9 hours and 429 miles later and I'm at Cavtat just south of Dubrovnik.
The sweeping mountain roads and wall to wall trees then scrubland was stunning
The last 50 miles were coastal bend swingers and gorge views when you look past the 600ft. shear drops. The water looked beautiful.

That sounds like a great road Iain.
Dubrovnik is a really nice city. Sorry to hear prices have rocketed in Hvar but Split must have been enjoyable.
I've only been in those parts via boat, all the way down to Athens.
It's a lovely coastline and must be a great journey on two wheels (Not sure about Albania, we bypassed that).
Keep the updates coming.:beerjug:

Rain and thunderstorms from early morning so, after a good breakfast, I thought I'd head inland to Florina, Greece, via Macedonia. Customs wanted my passport and bike papers. My V5C is a copy (I never carry the master). He was6 happy and refused me entry so, after 1.5 hours and 38 miles, I was back where I started!!!!

OK, let's head to Serbia via Bosnia. I got in to Bosnia no trouble and a great ride over mountain passes and gorges and a shed load of tunnels ( quite a few with no lights).

Serbia customs was also a jobsworth but accepted my V5C copy. Just to get in to Bulgaria, Greece and Romania with it now.

I've just hada small goulash at a roadside motel young and it was just what I needed. The room is very basic (no shower tonight) but it only cost me 11 Euro!

Looks a cracking location.

Tomorrow I hope to get to motosapiens, if Bulgaria let me in, for a couple of nights. We'll see what the weather does.

Fingers crossed for you getting into Bulgaria Iain. I always carry my original V5 as well as a couple of spares , just to please some of the picky border guards but I've found Bulgaria to be pretty relaxed.
You'll love MotoCamp and it's ran by a great bunch of people....but if Jamie decides to break open one of Ivo's 1.5 litre bottles of home made Rakia make your excuses and head to bed...I lost a day on my last trip there trying to keep up with them :blast.

And make sure that you visit Buzludzha Monument on Shipka Pass : https://thespaces.com/bulgarias-abandoned-buzludzha-monument-looks-set-for-a-second-life/

I'm planning on spending a week there (MotoCamp, not the monument...) early August before I meet Maureen at Sofia then travel down to Greece :D

And if you have time visit and stay in Plovdiv for a couple of nights, and try to stay in the old town, it's totally gorgeous and full of small cobbled streets with plenty places to eat and drink very well for very little cash ! Take the free walking tour through the day because it's free :)

I do like Bulgaria :thumb2

Thanks for the tips Mike I'll look into them. I'm here at Motosapiens after a 313 mile run from Serbia. I left before 07:00 and the first 10 miles were bottom gorge swinging. Heading to and from Nis the land opened up to large, wide and flat crop plains. Bulgaria is equally lovely and green everywhere. It's more rolling hills than mountain passes
Yes, I did have a lot of hassle getting in but made in eventually (must be my Scottish charm and radiant smile).
So much so that I'm going to miss out Greece( incase Bulgaria don't let me back in) and head for Romania.

Thanks for the tips Mike.

Buzludzha Monument and Plovdiv now on the agenda instead of Greece.

In Europe I hadn't biked out of the EU so didn't realise how anal border guards are about the master V5C.

Nice to get out and about, stretch the boundaries a little. Enjoy. Makes me want to pack my bike and head off, which is exactly what a trip report should do. Good job.

Well chuffed for you Iain . Agree, makes sense to stay put in Bulgaria just in case you have re-entry ( I said re-entry  ) problems and there's so much to see, there's a cracking ride up to Troyen Pass (both Troyen and Buzludzha are pretty close to the camp there ) which has a massive monument on top dedicated to all who died while fighting against communism, ...I think someone will have to build a bigger one now unfortunately !

Loving it :thumb2 :beerjug:

We seriously looked at buying somewhere small in the Idilevo area as prices are crazy cheap, both for something in need of full renovation and also for a decent place with a couple of acres, small vineyard and a pool :augie

It's spitting rain, overcast and much cooler this morning. I'm watching a dark red squirrel at play while having a home brew coffee. The 4 Greeks who came yesterday afternoon are leaving after breakfast so I'll have a walk down to the catfish lake.
I'll look for a place for MSpenz!
