Day 20

Wednesday 14 June 2023

248 miles today.

Left Florac (don't need to come back s there's not a lot here) and headed to Sainte Enimie and on to Millau along the Tarn gorge. A lovely road I would gladly ride again (not as great as my favourite which is the US12 in, mainly, Idaho which I'd ride every day) but lovely carving along the bottom of the gorge in sunshine!
From Narbonne to Perpignan the side winds were vicious! I had to don the rain trousers for about 10 miles as I was in a thunderstorm but it dried up and they came off again.
Climbing up to Andorra la Vella I got to 7000ft. up and it cooled to 10C and I as about to put my rain trousers on to warm my legs up when, suddenly, we plummeted to 3500ft. and it got nicely warmer.
The place is rather large and also very, very busy. I spotted a hotel (hotel Pyrenees) so parked up and got a room only to discover the place had a load of British bikers in it already!
For dinner I found a pizzeria open at 19:00 so I went in but pizzas were going to be an hour away so I had pasta and 2 pints of Franziskaner weiss bier on draught! In Andorra!
That was me for the night, or so I thought.
I had met an Aussie earlier who dropped his rental BMW on loose gravel and had dislocated his thumb and loosened a few bits on the bike. I used what tools I had with me to fix all his loose bits and, on the way back from dinner, I found a shop that sold sets of torx keys so I bought him a set. It also happened to be his 70th birthday. In true Aussie style he didn't go to a doctor but just bandaged t up tightly!
Well, his wife came down from their room (also with a swollen hand) and we sat and drank wine and chatted for a long time.
I slept very, very well.

Day 21

Thursday 15 June 2023

219 miles today.

Left Andorra and headed into Spain (only took 12 miles to get there) and along the N260 to Sort. I stopped there to put Jaca my Nav V search and it couldn't find it. Very weird. I should have listened to myself and plugged in Ainsa and then took it there but, no, I followed it to cassa Jaca and it wasn't the right place but in the correct direction-ish. It took me through Tremps and over the C-1311 col (not doing that road again) to somewhere else (N230 maybe). Once I got to my wrong destination I put Canfranc Station in and it found that but, unfortunately, another 99 miles to go, Shit.
Anyway, I made it to Jaca but had trouble finding hotel front doors that weren't up pedestrian routes. So, I'm now esconsed in the Gran hotel and it's fine.
All the dark beers here seem to be 6% or stronger.
I'm hoping not to meet any Aussies tonight.
Tomorrow I'm heading to the Canfranc Station first of all and then I may head to the north coast

Thank you - I'll keep a mote of for my September tour but I've s#decided that I'm already well north I'll try and find somewhere on the coast for the next few days. Ta.

over the C-1311 col (not doing that road again)
Really ? It, and the L-511 on the other side of the C-13, are 2 of my favourite roads anywhere
But sure isn’t it great that we’re all different :rolllaugh

Loving the report & photos Iain :thumb

ive been to that exact spot today....Mam Torr, in campervan for lunch watching Paragliders do there stuff
Ha! There was still one up in the air at 9 o'clock tonight. A gorgeous young and very fit young lady in running gear accosted me while I was making a coffee and asked the way to the top of Mam Tor! Off she went, uphill then 20 minutes later back down she ran....smiling too. "Did you make it?" "Oh yes thanks" she replied. " Would you like to stop for a coffee?" I asked? "Fekk off you old perv" she replied as she disappeared back down to Castleton.

Where is that?
Morning Khulu. As Stevie06 says, it's called Mam Tor at Castleton in the Peak District.
