kick starting

Did anyone else see on the BBC news last week. They were showing a german worker and how he was affected by the current economic problems. He was going to work on his old airhead and it showed him kick starting it,, Very novel way... On the centre stand. left foot on top of the cylinder head whilst he operated the kick start. couple of kicks and off he went... I tried it in the garage but the whole bike just toppled over... maybe he was lighter than me
Anyone else tried this method?

I used to kick-start my R75/6. Left it on the centre stand, shuffled it to just before tdc, jumped on the kick-starter and away she went. No problem.

Apparantly not. IIRC on here some time ago there was a discussion on kickstarting a beemer. first prod to energise the coil then second kick to start it. does work too.

Cheeky bugger. I know Im a fatfart but I suppose umpteen stone standing on the pot was bound to change the cog a bit

I can pick it up though.

Used to start the 60/6 on the center stand.
Now I only use the side stand when kick starting Gertie.

untill a week ago, i kick started my g/s because of a failing battery for months, i went to a rally and kicked it every morning (in the 20 deg. f), there is an art to starting a cold, high compression air head. having one tuned right is also a help, which mine is. gotta watch out for the shifter or your bike will ride off with out you. lol. helps one appreciate the e-button.

This reminds me of the Baskerville hall ford ride when I tried and failed to kick start Pastymans R80g/s, after one of his doting son's tried to comprehensively drown it 'and me along with it'

Evey time I gave it a good swing I caught the gear leaver with me foot

Didn't try standing on the cylinder head though

1-3 tries.left foot /sidestand .clutch in ,incase i catch the gear lever
mind you hurt a bit ,if you try it with sandals on ,and your ankle hits the frame

mine won't turn over with the clutch in. and you shouldn't be riding with sandals don't even want to think about hitting a bare ankle.

Well I've had lots of jap 500/600 singles without lecy starts and have had no problems but I'm buggered if I can start my beemer with the k/start. It seems to just move the piston about and inch up the bores per prod. I won't bother to replace the k/start on the next box I get. Waste of space IMHO.
And no I'm not! I laugh in the face of certain death and tweek the nose of the spindley killer fish, Pah.

The Siebenrock G/S I had last year was really easy to kick start..as was an earlier one I had....fecked if I can start this current one via the kick start though

Well you see maybe this old boy knew something we dont. It was the way he literally stood on the left hand pot whilst he proded the kickstart that interested me . Usually the problem is that the thing is so high you cant get a good swing. This way it looked dead easy. I,ll have to lose a pound or two and have another go.
Mine does start ok on the sidestand though. Must do the two kick thing though.. ( And it mus,nt be full of Welsh water)
