Alarming title I know but I've had a couple of days to reflect on what happened to me on Wednesday and it still seems appropriate.
I was going towards Worcester on the A443 by Witley Court at about 07:45. I had just overtaken a Discovery who was doing about 45 and had a clear road ahead of me. A flat bed transit type truck came over the brow of the hill ahead and immediately swapped lanes to come at me head on. This was not an inadvertant drift across the white line, he veered completely onto my side of the road. I pulled on all the brakes I could and at the last moment it veered back across the road. I stopped because my hands were shaking so much and after a few deep breaths turned round to try and find it but once I'd reached Great Witley it could have gone several ways so that was that.
This was the most terrifying incident I have seen in 30 years on the roads.
What still troubles me is that because this was so deliberate I have no doubt he will do it again, and has he left someone else dead somewhere with the rest of the world assuming they lost control of their bike?
In case you are wondering I was not flying along, I was just going to work and had completed my overtake before this was truck was within 300 yds of me. I did not enjoy the ride home and I'm not sure how I feel about using that stretch of road again, even though it has been my daily commute for years.
Keep safe fellow riders and I hope you never ever have a similar experience.
