Rode up to Glen Lyon this morning via Killin and along the Lochy ,I know there was two gates to negotiate but theres a big new one with a private road sign and no unauthorised entry .We went through anyway much to the dismay of the Farmer who was out waving his arms gesturing us to turn back.Anyway does anybody know the status of this road.Have I the rite to use it as I have done for many years.:nenau

Is that the road over by Ben Lawers and the reservoir?

Naw Ronno if you went down that road and turned left at Bridge of Balgie and follow the road all the way back to Killin,The roads pretty fecked but passable.Georgeous day up there today :beerjug:

Its a Hydro road that the public has been allowed to use,in as much as turning a blind eye to folk using it.
I usually have a couple of trips over it year, but it sounds like it may be coming to an end.

Im the same Doyle I think it could be over. What about your right to roam I know I could walk through, but on my bike not so sure .:beerjug:

Right to roam doesn't include access for motorised vehicles which is why there's just about nowhere in Scotland, other than on private land where you have permission, that you can legally ride offroad. I can't see that changing, even when the SNP nationalise the sporting estates owned by the rich and over-privileged.

The big gates where there last year but no private road signs. Passed some workmen and no one seemed bother I was riding through.

Know the road well, but said farmer can't suddenly errect a sign and make it private off his own back.

Its always been private. Looks like they are just now enforcing that privacy. I guess their lawyer has told them if they allow access they will have a duty of care to users, and it was in a very poor condition last time I was on it...no problem for us rufty tufty gsers, but more so for a casual user who sets off along what looks like a normal tarmac road.

You're probably right Gerry. In an increasingly litigious world, folk cover their backs.
Shame they didn't just settle for a "At your own risk" sign.
Precious few 'tracks' up here.

Private Road

I believe that road has always been a private road - many years ago the estate it is part of was owned by the Wills family - the tobacco barons.
At that time the gate at the top was usually locked, however, over the past twenty years the gate was left open and access was unhindered.
It now sound like that has changed again - perhaps a change in estate ownership? The last time I used the road it's condition was abysmal.

Bumfuckarsetitsbollocks :blast

Meant to ride over that bent and twisted bit of road today, but things didn't pan out that way.

Seems like I'll not be dodging potholes up that way any more!

But saying that, the cyclists will still be sweating their way up& down it, so there should still be a gap to squeaze! a 'ickle BM through :D :green gri :thumb2
