Up until last Monday I'd made up my mind that I was going to have a Klim Badlands for this spring, however I was in Pidcocks waiting for my top box to be re-keyed when I had the opportunity to try on the latest Street guard 4.

It seems to be a very well thought out jacket, is anyone using one, is it as good (or better) than the Badlands I wonder?

Big fan of Klim. I have a Latitude jacket and trousers and cannot fault it. And, to be honest, you are not comparing like with like. No way is a Badlands Pro a SG$ rival. The Klim is a much more highly specced garment. And Klim come with a lifetime guarantee.....

My local BMW Motorrad dealer here in Germany has just started stocking Klim. Which says something about their views on the quality of the product

And FC Moto in Aachen also do Klim now, so you may get better prices there (especially with the fall in the value of teh Euro)

I hate you, I go to Aachen at least once a year, when visiting friends in Bedburg, can see that costing me money, Its bad enough with Polo's at Juchen, now you have shown me that one, its going to be expensive ;-)

Their prices are only marginally cheaper than Adventure Bike Warehouse (unless you're going for the full on Adventure suit), and by the time Gary's applied the tosser discount, he will probably be cheaper.:thumb

Another vote for klim (I have a Latitude and Traverse) and Gary is a top bloke (No he didn't pay me to say that).

+1 for the full on adventure suit. had mine since 2009, fantastic. I treated myself to the best I could afford and never regretted it.

Klim for me , had great service from the adventure warehouse .The fit and ventilation is great and waterproof in extreme weather .beautifully made and not too bulky .taking mine to Bolivia in April , good armour and versatile on different bikes .not cheap but good kit isn't .always used alpine stars gear before but this is so much easier/ less bulky/ sweaty to wear . Recommended by me anyway:thumby::cool:

Another vote for Klim. I have the traverse jacket, and layer underneath to my choice. That to me is the beauty of this good quality tough, waterproof outer shell. I'm not governed by the manufacturer into wearing their fitted zipped in layers, I can wear whatever I like from a wind stop mid layer, a fleece, a heated jacket, to just a t shirt ... I can layer however I want, but the shell remains tough with a bonded goretex liner.
It's the perfect all season set up, I choose the layering system and add or take away accordingly.

(Do you want me to explain this layering thing again ... :nenau :D)

What do you wear on your work bike?

Hi Paul08,

I thought that the SG4 would have been an outfit that you could compare to the Klim, with it's pro-shell etc, however your comments and others are suggesting that Klim really is the business, which was my assumption before I looked at the SG4 on Monday!

I have to admit that I have not tried the Badlands yet and did intend to go over to see Gaz at ABW to try one on.

Any other comments guys?

I've tried a Dianese D RY and Hein Gericke Master V neither compare to the Klim Badlands for fit, comfort, ventilation and ability to deal with even the foulest of weather,a brilliant suit. The only very minor negative point is that the trousers are quite baggy in the legs ( not waist ) but this doesn't effect their performance,I wouldn't hesitate to buy another suit.
I've also got a pair of Kim gloves, again,a great bit of kit,I got the gear from Adventurebike warehouse, great people to deal with.

I've tried my SG4 in a few hours of torrential rain & 25c heat & it was great

I really like BMW gear for road riding it just seems to work for me

Have just been given a copy of Jan 2015 ride mag with test on high end biker suits, the SG4 comes out in 3rd place after Dainese and Rukka, Badlands came 5th!

However it seems as though the B/L got knocked back 'cos it didn't have a lining.

The Klim Badlands Pro has so much more street cred about it though which is very important when attempting the jump up to Waitrose from Tesco.

I have a Badlands and its great. I prefer the layering approach as I have better options available to me than OEM including a heated liner. Mine's been 100% waterproof and the venting for warmer months is superb.

IMHO Dainese are not made well enough to be placed above Rukka, BMW or Klim in any comparison test. Between Rukka, BMW & Klim it's down to what features you like and what you want to pay, all are top-notch garments.

Badlands pricing is very good at present (USD 1199.00 from Revzilla)... and with a lift time guarantee.... very tempting :)

Oh shit! I'm still stuck at Aldi... haven't even made Lidel yet.....a hopeless case....but clearly the Klim has the street cred and seems be very well loved with a great following on here.
