Knee down...

What touches down first on the 1200GS? Had boot scraping the other day without trying; surprised me a bit.

If someone who was appropriately trained/qualified and had filled in all the necessary health and safety/risk assessment procedures (and obviously phoned the insurance company first) was to try and get his/her knee down is there plenty of clearance for such or will something ground out. I have a friend who wishes to try said act as soon as the weather warms a little....?

Dunno about GS12s, but on a 1150 its rather easy to scrape your boots.

On an '07 GSA - R/H foot-peg coming back from Andorra to Ax-les-Thermes last October - if you know the road you'll know how/why!! - Metzler Tourance's, on me own with no luggage (all my gear was back at the camp-site in Camurac).

Clean, warm tarmac and I was buzzing from the fantastic route.... fu**ing addictive

Oh yeah, and I was being 'followed' by a bloke an a Honda Blackbird, so I had to prove a point - corner speed is everything!!

In my sports bike days (3 weeks ago) every one I ever followed on the road, with their knee down, was holding me up

Well I agree with Stretchamus to an extent. My friend only does knee down on selected and well proven roundabouts. It always makes one chuckle how some get their knee down with so little lean angle. Plus most look complete tw*ts 'cos their body is all twisted up all wrong just to look cool 'stead of looking through the bend. Guess those engine bars would be the first to deck out by the looks but you look a pretty big guy, long legs?? Will advise my friend to get some engine bars I think...

Right hand side, center stand
Left hand side, Side stand.

Knee down is possible on the road, although fairly pointless. I've NEVER had a bike that I couldn't get my knee down on. And that includes an XT350 on knobblies.....

Without sticking anything out specifically to touch down, the toe of my boot touches well before the chicken strips are gone. I find that my toes angle out on the GS, so present a good first point of contact. I now take the advice of Lee Parks in Total Control and move my feet out of the way so that the balls of my feet are on the pegs. Nothing touches now and I am just at the edge of the tyre at full lean (for me at least).

Why....

looks to me he's falling off it.....can't see the reasoning by getting your knee down...does it help you control going round corners or is it just a macho thing......
