Dear God - if that was MILES I would say they were expensive
To be fair, we were tipping the ton most of the time on the open roads and it was over 30°C a lot of the time. Running at that speed in those temperatures for hours at a time isn't going to do a tyre any favours. We were also riding on a lot of gravel roads, which were graded with sharp, granite gravel, which again won't help a tyre's lifespan.
(I am sad and log when they get changed in the back of the Haynes manual, along with any other major maintenance) I also keep a log of fuel consumption
I do the same - any changes or maintenance is logged. You'll also see my fuel consumption in my signature were I track it using fuelly. I find an increase in fuel consumption is often the first indication of maintenance required.
