I haven't posted much yet but have lurked and learned a lot since I bought my 1150 GSA last August, so thanks to you all... :beerjug:

I changed my oil at the weekend, first time since I picked the bike up from the dealer, putting in 20w-50 mineral. I'm not sure what was already in there but it had an 18k service from the dealer and I'd topped it up once with 20W-50. Anyway, when I started it this (mild) morning it knocked like a bastid until warmed up. The only reason I mention this is that it didn't do this before so my guess is that it had lower viscosity oil in it before? Do they all do that?

They all make funny noises :) How bad was the knocking?

If the dealer did it recently (in last year) then it would have had 20-50 put in it as they've recommended that for the past few years - I think they are on 10-50 now or what ever new snake oil castrol want to flog.

Thanks for the reply. Of course, when I started it up this morning it was fine - there was no knocking - just the usual bag o' spanners clatter...

Did you change the filter as well? I had similar experience and found that in tightening crashbars I had caused them to vibrate against the sump guard to produce a knocking sound - suggest checking anything you may have loosened or removed.
