This arrived today straight from the Fatherland. Usual MRA quality and easily fitted as expected. After my ride on the 1290 SA, it'll be interesting to see how this one performs/compares.

Hopefully I'll get out tomorrow for a wee jaunt to test it.

Ok, a few miles under the belt and...............

It's an improvement over the standard screen. Less turbulence/buffeting and easily adjusted depending on what you want. For me (5'11"), sitting at 70+ (great that I have a handy airfield) is much more pleasant. That's with the screen at its highest and the aero foil fully extended. In this configuration, the wind blast is moved to the top of my helmet, just above the top edge of the visor. It's not as good as the big screen on the 1290SA, but it's doing a better job than said standard screen and I think I'll keep this on for a while and leave the smaller R screen I like off for now. At slower speeds, I played about lowering the screen and foil and am happy that there is plenty of choice to be had. I may still buy the SA set-up in the near future, but for now, and £80 lighter, this will do nicely. Only thing I am not fond off are the looks, but I'll no doubt warm to that over time.

Funny how subjective stuff like that is. As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm no fan of screens full stop (asthetics) however I actually quite like the look of yours and am toying with getting one as whilst functional the one I bought off here looks shite.

Having said that I did two 500 mile days this w/e on Autoroutes with just the small R screen set on high with no real issues. Yes a big screen would be better obviously but well.............descisions, descisions :D

I think screens are very subjective.

I rode the 1290 SA yesterday and had the screen on the highest setting.
Whilst it was pretty good, there was still a bit of buffeting and its buffet that I find more tiring over a long ride than clean air.I actually prefer the small screen on my 950SE and I'm sure I would also prefer the standard screen on the 1190R over any aftermarket jobbies or trying to fit the 1290 offering.

Another benefit I find is having clean air pushing against your chest does give you something to lean into which offsets lower back pain, which I tend to get sat up on something like a GSA with a big screen-another reason why I find the riding position of my K1200S far more comfortable than that of an RT as weight is taken off the lower back.

I would agree about the smaller R screen and I really like mine. It obviously does let you kill many more bugs during the summer, but after my euro trip last year with the standard screen, I thought I'd give this a try before shelling out even more dosh on the SA screen and brackets. Luckily, it's really quick to swop them over.

My SA screen should be here today !! if it is ill fit it tonight and use the bike tomorrow for work and report back
That's if it arrives !!

Ive got a similar lip on my std R screen nicked from a Xcreen from my Tiger Explorer and it really works a treet well happy with it if the SA isn't as good that will be going straight back on !!

How much was the SA screen and associated brackets?

The full price is about £130. You may get a discount from your dealer

Oh fitted mine ( and looks the part, not like a lot of aftermarket parts) not had chance to try it yet. But so far well worth the money

Post a pic if you get chance :thumb

Just fitted mine this morning. Looks nice but I think you need the screen mask as well. Less buffeting than the stock screen, particularly around the 80-85mph mark but still quite noisy. I fitted my brackets in the high position so the pic is with the screen full down.

i was looking at an adventure and an SA side by side this morning, and it looked like the mask would sit nicely on the S model.

Mocked this up earlier....Mask is on order and should be here this week...Compare that with the stock...

Well, along with my new Shoei Hornet Adv and the MRA, I have to say that the Vario is a definite improvement over the standard screen. But I just can't warm to the looks of the screen, so it will be going up for sale. £60 posted if anyone is interested.

My Vario screen arrived and was fitted yesterday and I've had a brief play today taking the long way home from work.

Despite not liking screens (have I mentioned before i think all screens look shite?) I actually think it's the best of a bad bunch on the R. The angles mirror the front of the head lamp cowling and the dark finish mirrors the black in the tank graphics.

I have only had a short play but find with it raised and the spoiler 3/4 of the way up it pretty much reminds me of my GS screen and is much quieter and smoother than the standard R screen (hardly surprising!). Up to 80 and all was quiet behind the screen. I'm well pleased with it :)

Some pictures from my phone on the way home; it's fugging hard to take a decent picture of what it looks like in the sunlight!!

IS the consensus from those who have bought the MRA screen that it is pretty good, looking through the many screen threads here it seems all the KTM screens get mixed reviews.

From the Demo I did not like the standard screen, but had not played with it, however it looks quite small / sporty so probably not the best for touring, the Touring screen from KTM seems to generally be very much dis-liked.

Very tempted to just order the MRA, either that or try the Givi Airflow, they have worked well on my last two bikes.

Well I'm still very happy with mine but have to admit I only really use it in the winter on shitty long distance rides as, TBH, I don't really have a problem with the standard R set up - that's probably just me though
