Looking to get a keeper.

Decided the BMW GS LC are just not in that league.

Those that have the 1190 R

Or do you recon it is so close to a 690R ( that is my keeper)

It's chalk and cheese to a 690R. A 690R isn't a road bike - at all. The 1190R is (ironically, for a bike with long suspension and a 21/90/90 front wheel) possibly the best (real life) road bike I've ever ridden. :thumb2

Ok, lets put it this way, you're in the market for a road bike. A few hours riding? A day's riding? Commuting? Overnight trips with a bit of luggage? Full on touring?

Are you going to buy a KTM 690R for any of that?

But compete in the Cambrian Rally? Go to Spain off roading? A days trail riding? Now yer talking .... :thumb2

1190R way bigger and heavier than a 690R. And then there's the engine wow totally chalk and cheese . I think the only reasons not to have both would be financial, storage space and wifey nagging you have too many bikes. Speaking as a current 1190R owner and ex 640 owner (miss it's hooligan nimbleness ) if had space and cash I'd have a 690R or most likely 701enduro in a flash . PS I love my 1190R, best of the current big Adv bikes for sale, it handles road use way better than my old 950Adv did and that engine is ballistic on the cam.

My current setup is

KTM 350 EXC-F. Six days

KTM 690R. Highly modified with complete new gearbox internals to make it both off-road and on road. Rally raid large tank and fairing. Modified suspension. Renazco seat

BMW F800GS. Desierto fairing snd suspension updated for me

All great bikes.

Two KTM are my favourite but the BMW is more touring

Maybe I have all I need and the 1190 would not add anything

Thanks for the replies

1190R and a GS, are without stating the bleeding obvious, very different bikes.

One difference that doesn't get mentioned much is that the GS is capable off road and if you're a good off road rider can tackle quite a bit of stuff.
The 1190R though actually handles like an off road bike (all be it a big one) when off road. They are like chalk and cheese in that respect.

So I wouldn't bother with an 1190, sounds like you have that aspect covered with your 690.

I'd go for a 1290GT if I was in your position

Karl, I have the 350EXCF, 690R and the 1190R and genuinely think I have 3 of the best bikes I've ever owned, they all do different jobs but overlap by just the right amount, I think with your post you probably already know that, just go for the full set!!
