KTM 640 Adv v XChallenge

Now your thinking straight...... remember, you have all the history of your bike, you know how good of a base vehicle it is, so invest and make it better, ie, to suit the need you have in mind.

Also now he's thinking straight and knowing Johnny, you'd get one, take some photos during the shortlived honeymoon, soon hate it and get rid. Stay with your Xthingy:thumb

This is not correct.
KTM market there bike's weight as dry, without stating it and most other manufacturers market their bike's weight as wet, ie, with 80% or over fuel capacity and with engine oil and coolant in.
The difference in weight between a 690 and XC approx 5 kilo...... google it if you don't believe me...... :D

Well thats 5 kg's lost where it matters :D

I rode one back to back with my XC at last years hograost, and it certainly feels a lot lighter and more agile to ride. I didn't find it as confidence inspiring when getting airbourne though.

I was 2 days away from putting my money down on a 690, but after a small disaster i'm now sticking with the XC, and putting the cash into that instead.

New radiator along with gaurd is on order, next will be suspension and maybe a few engine mods.

And i;ve just de-catted the standard exhuast- pics to follow. :D

Both he and I get excited at the prospect of riding our 640 ADVs:bounce1, do you get that same feeling riding an XChallenge or is it a ride to Snoozeville.

Depends how fast you ride it across Mongolia Tim :)

So how does the 640 vs 690 vs XChallenge compare in real world weight then? And would any of them really provide a noticeable/significant benefit in the gnarly stuff over my HP?

Lend me your HP for a week and I'll tell you :D

Jase, I don't think you've done many of the trickier lanes in Wales? Nobody takes a 200kg bike on them. Well, they might do once but never again.:D

There's a HAF gathering tomorrow (see AdvRider). Get yourself along to one but be careful which group you go with ;)

That might explain the colour :D

A change of colour is under way:P

The HP2 would be so far behind you'd never know:comfort

Maybe I can get the local dealer to let me try one for a few hours and see if I can really see the difference. The biggest appeal is getting a something approaching a proper dirt bike that doesn't need an oil change every few hours - I simply don't have the time for that.

I know we're getting off topic but yes, decent offroaders with sensible service intervals are becoming a rareity these days.
Then it's all relative, riding a big dirt bike like the HP2 is just as rewarding on slightly less technical trail as my Husaberg is on the real gnarly stuff:)
