why does he need an engine . hope his last one did not fail
as i am only after up grading to an 08 990

Yep. A catastrophic failure. His mechanic said he never saw anything as bad. KTM have quoted €3000 ++ for a rebuild.
tell him buy another bike and just use his old one for spare parts.
also look into shipping from america, they have good prices and shipping can be cheaper that shipping from uk

Does the warranty not cover it?
I see no change there,had one of the first 950's.Crankshaft & flywheel gone in 8K miles.
