KTM 990 SMT, anyone got a any feedback on these?

Get the fuelling sorted and if you really can't control your right hand lol there are throttle cams to reduce throttle sensitivity.

Hi Andy, I know it's a few weeks ago since you posted this but I'd be really interested in how you sorted out the fuelling as you mentioned above, as this seems to be the fundamental problem with the bike.
Many thanks
Jo

Just found this thread - I have acquired an SMT today. My son has just picked it up, though I have yet to see it. We bought it between us in theory, though at the moment he has the bike and I am down the money. How does that work?

It is a 2011 ABS in white. He has and RC8 and needed something more practical. I have a GS and wanted something lighter and livelier, so it will sit in my garage to use when I want and it is his at the weekend. This has been an itch I have wanted to scratch for a long time. I have come close to buying one new, but in the end opted for the safe choice, but my sons RC8 has won me over to the orange side.

As Stevemersey says - an itch that persists...........

I think a PowerCommander/remap would sort out any fuelling foibles - and it is still a serious contender for me..............

I've had this in my garage for a few weeks now taking it out for the occasional blast. Surprisingly comfy, reasonable range, lovely quality and a real hoot to ride. TBH, there's a part of me wants to buy it off the owner (he is going to sell it) but I like my plums where they are and not on my wife's bedside table....... :D

One of the most underrated bikes.

No power commander needed. Tune ecu works directly with the bikes ecu.

Like Marki_GSA already said, TuneECU http://www.tuneecu.com/ - software that gives you access to the bike's ECU to tune fuel maps (or upload complete maps), enable/disable engine features (O2 sensors, SAS [SAI], secondary flies etc) and carry out some basic diagnostics - excellent stuff! Plenty of discussions on the forums:
http://www.ktmforum.co.uk/forum.php
and
http://www.ktmsmt.com/
and
ADVRider.com

There are tons of pre-tuned 'maps' (dependent on bike set up, exhausts, airfilters, SAS removed etc etc) available for download via the TuneECU website and/or ktmsmt.com

Kevxtx KTM SMR/SMT Mod book - http://www.ktmsmt.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4946

I uploaded map #20 from Kev's list and made a couple of tweaks to that to get my bike up and running after exhaust, airbox mod, SAS removed, O2 sensors removed etc - the bike ran well but being of a nervous disposition I then went the idea route and had the bike dyno tuned. Expensive but a decent Dyno guy will be able to set your bike up better than any 'generic' mapping would (to your personal needs and you know there are no lean or overly rich spots in the setup).

As the guys at TuneECU warn......
Very Important !!!!!! This software is not a TOY but a tool for professionals.
If this software is not correctly applied, the engine can be destroyed.
Use of this software, under certain circumstance can invalidate your warranty.

Did they change the fuelling on later SMT's? The 2011 I have just acquired seems to be smooth enough at low speeds, much better than the demo bikes I had ridden back when they first came out. No sign of snatchiness.
