KTM & CFMoto Distribution in Europe have parted ways

No doubt more job losses in Mattighofen if it is moved , the CF Moto distribution warehouse is right next door to the KTM development centre

Looks like KTM need another rummage around the back of the sofa.

Given their close ties with CF Moto, this seems a strange move. Still no one likes affiliations like that once exposed to the inherent risks & the Chinese have probably extracted sufficient from the joint venture to walk away.

This realignment idea has that whiff of BS - surely they need to focus on saving the core business & close down or divest themselves of all the sub-brand badge engineering stuff if they are to survive. That massive unsold inventory won't go away on it's own & delays with the financial statements doesn't bode well sadly.

The elephant in the room is the unsold stock. Now if cf moto was to disappear and stock was suitably reduced? Probably not but worthy of speculation. JJH

But does that stock comply with current emissions laws.. I think not, so methinks it’s not saleable in Europe.

Just me ‘umble observation

I think it is only bikes made this year that need to meet Euro5+

Bikes made in or before 2024 that meet Euro5 can be sold and registered this year. Expect big fire sales in the autumn.

Wasn't that what was explained before?

They have to realise xxx Million squid before a certain date , to meet the requirements of the last vote

All they got was a deadline and time to get to that deadline with requirements to achieve an certain of conditions

Why they didn't just pull the plug is beyond me

I wonder if this is a tactical move on KTM's part to prevent the CF 450 from undermining sales of the new KTM 390 Adventure bike? If so, it seems somewhat short sighted, given the build partnership between the two firms.

they aren't in a position to be tactical. They already owe CF Moto millions and have no lines of credit for acquiring stock and spare parts for dealers. CF Moto will want a solvent partner to ride the cheap Chinese Adventure bike wave that is raging across Europe. I am pretty certain CF Moto binned KTM, not the other way around.

That's a pretty good point - I suppose we underestimate how much clout KTM has lost over the past year or two.

Handing over ANY intellectual property or design to China ,,, that your company relies on ,,, is a recipe for trouble !

You may well be correct but I do know that in the case of cars, vans and trucks the EU (& UK) has to approve derogation, there has to be a valid reason and it’s normally limited to a number of vehicles that is small %age of annual sales volume and over a limited period.

Quite a hard line is usually taken because the change in emissions is usually known for a long time prior, obviously no one wants KTM to fail but I’m not sure this is a much of a lifeline unless the EU takes a really sympathetic view but theres the risk that other manufacturers will cry foul as their sales aren’t booming at the moment.

Yes but that’s the condition that any company that wants to set up manufacturing in China is required to do ,so in some respects the greedy bastards who want to cut their manufacturing cost at the expense of home country workers serves them right when they get screwed by China .

Much of the stock will probably be off road bikes that don't need to comply with the same regs as the road bikes.

Would anyone want to invest a large amount of money in a new KTM bike now, given the recent cam problems and the threat that there may be no warranty backup should the Company fold ? I can see KTM going bust and being bought by China to use the brand name on their bikes.

Yep
I think it’s a dead duck now

I fear you're right. Such a shame - not a brand I have particularly warmed to but the rumoured 390 Adv was looking quite interesting.

From dealer this morning. Although it's old news I think.

"I thought I would give you an update on your order of the CFMOTO 450MT.

If you have not already heard, CFMOTO have cut ties with KTM and as such this means that they are currently sourcing a new importer.

We are therfore waiting to find out who the new importer is going to be, so unfortunately will not be receiving any more bikes in the near future.

Once we know who the new importer is, we will get a better idea of, if and when we will expect the next batch of bikes in."
