KTM just increased the price of all 2009 models:

990 Adventure with ABS £10,895
990 Adventure R £11,095 (no ABS)
990 SMR £10,695
990 SMT £9,595

How long before BM follow suit

And I thought you were talking about quality of parts and finish! :augie

FWIW, the 990 Adventures' that I have seen knock spots off any GS for quality and finish. :D

Ya can barter with a katie dealer though....:thumb

+1 you can knock a grand off those prices...:thumb2 It seems to be the way KTM dealers do it List price is x amount but then they knock a grand off or throw in a set of Arkro's ...sales tactics like we didn't know

One thing with the KTM's is you don't have all that optional extra bollocks like you do with BM's :thumb2

Having just 'done the deed' to move from a 1200GSA to a 990 Adv, and having looked very carefully at one of each parked side by side, I reckon there is nothing in it any more.
They are different bikes and have come from different directions to almost meet in the middle.
The KTM's switchgear and bits and pieces look 'standard quality' compared with the much more integrated look of the BMW, but underneath it all, the engineering, machining, frame welds, paint work and the general fit and finish - there is nothing to choose between them. The BM is certainly not outstandingly better, neither does the KTM look at all worse. There's nothing in it but the differnce between the style of bikes (different), £2k in price, and coffee in a cup and saucer whilst BMW empty your bank account at service time. :D
After a 1200GS and then a GSA, I'll reserve judgement on how finish and reliability compare in use until I've got a good few miles on the new bike. :JB

..........and a good few pages in the Touratit catalogue too..........:blast

The choice is still yours whether to go for the extras or not :augie

The new KTM 990R for example cannot be specified with ABS and the list price is now higher than a non ABS GSA.

That price differential won't last for long, the poor exchange rate is bound to catch up will the BMs soon. I think they've been able to hold it off for longer because they are so much larger as a group, shift bigger volumes across the range and have a wider market. They won't keep that subsidy to the UK (outside the Euro-zone) going for much longer because UK volumes are bound to be dropping and we're a small market for them anyway.

Good news for UK second-hand values. :thumb2

You can see this already with other brand UK dealers selling new stock and particularly good trade-ins back to Europe. However, when the price flips the other way it'll be back to parallel imports again. :nenau

P+H Motorcycles in Crawley have a load of 08 990's at the old prices if anyone is looking for one:thumb2 £10000 is a big hit £2000 rise is feckin unbelievable:eek:

i've had both bikes and both i would say are completely different bikes...

Firstly i'll start with the ktm which i had first.

Good bits:

The engine is a stonking engine especially when de-exhausted, airbox mod and emission stuff moved, whellies allday long.
A great bike off road with some knobblies on.
Great sunday bike

Bad bits:
Finish was decent but sufferred rusty spokes and nipples:eek:.
Fuel comsuption was diabolical with as low as 101 mile on a full tank, normally 150 was the best i had.
Tyres lasted a typical 2000-3000 miles.
seat was very uncomftable even with the gel seat.
Screen buffeting was horendous, possibly the worst ever on a bike.
You had to oil the chain.
front fork dive was horrendous on the toad while breaking (but you got used to it).
Gre

Bmw 1200 gs adv.

Good bits:
300 mile range and 50 mpg.
7000 tyre life on the rear.
comfatble as hell, did have slight screen buffeting but no where near as bas as the ktm.
Heated grips, fog lights etc.
Anti dive front end.
shaft drive.

Bad bits:

dealers thinking they have you over a barrel.
corrison on the front cover, forks, and rear wheel and hub.
People say the engine is dull (i found it great, and yer, it's no hayabusa).

comparison:

If i was going to buy again, which i am. the bmw would win.

The reason it would win is i do no offroad, love the 50mpg on a run, comftable, shaft drive, 7000 mile tyre life, 33 litre tank and it's big (i'm 6'4").
slightly better quality, ooh and the £11,000 KTM are now wanting for the adventure. Personally i think the ktm is worth £8500-£9000 tops in my opinion.

Yes some of the BMW stuff is expensive and they offer almost 0 discount but for my use it would be superb for me.
