I'm off the France for a week, next week. I'm thinking La Rochelle is far enough down, to get good weather and allow myself time for a comfortable round trip.
Figured I could come back along the coast road toward Brest and then to Bagnoles.

Can anyone suggest a good route back and/or decent, but not to expensive places to stay.

thanks

You are away for a week from home, door to door. Are we to guess that is seven days in full?

You apparently live in the UK, where unknown. Does it take you a full day to get from your house to the coast of Blighty? If so, you lose two of your (possibly) seven days.

You have obviously got yourself to La Rochelle, route down and starting from where unknown. Similarly, we have no idea how many days out of your (possibly) seven you intend to take. Not knowing how you got down to La Rochelle makes it difficult to offer possible alternatives for a route back.

How long do you expect to linger in La Rochelle having arrived?

Turning to your request for a return route and help on hotels....

How many days you have available to make the journey La Rochelle, to 'near' Brest, to somewhere called Bagnoles to..... Somewhere?

To which exit port in France do you intend to return? Do you want to include suggestions on a route from the mysterious town of Bagnoles to the exit port, too?

What time do you have to arrive at the unknown exit port to catch your return ferry or train?

You have pencilled in going from your start point at La Rochelle, towards Brest then to Bagnoles.

Do you mean Bagnoles-de-l'Orne by any chance? If so, Google maps suggests that is 480 miles.

Or somewhere else?

When asking for directions it certainly helps if you can be reasonbly precise as to:

How long you have available to make the journey.

Where you want to end up and when.

Anything else that may be helpful to those trying to help you. For instance, why have you chosen Bagnoles? Is it a particular 'must do' that you go there?

If we learn that you have just one day to go from La Rochelle, 'towards Brest' and onwards to some place called Bagnoles (except it maybe isn't called Bagnoles) it will probably dictate the route the suggestions you receive.

Similarly, you want places to stay..... Where? Anywhere between La Rochelle, Brest and the mysterious Bagnoles?

On form this morning Richard-Bravo :clap
You will note I've spared you the entire re-quote "biker mate" :thumb

Stayed HERE a few years back. Right on the water, can't have been that pricey otherwise I wouldn't have been there (!) and secure underground car park for the bike.:thumb

Guys
Timpo, thanks for the link. I can use this for other trips.
Johnny, the cabin in Brittany looks good. I'll give them a call.
Wapping.Yes, I have sorted the route down to La Rochelle and that will leave me 6 days to get back to England.
If the weathers good, I think I'll do a bit of camping before moving on to Brittany.

Thanks for all the advice and tips.

John

Beware thinking your far enough souff John to get decent weather - Atlantic coast can be very unpredictable. I have had all sorts in recent years.

La Rochelle (glitzy expensive etc) slightly further south and inland or even Ile de Oleron may be better - then work your way back around the coast.
